I was always under the impression a lot of her outfits were an homage, and most of her fans were just too young to understand that and went crazy praising her ~originality~. I mean, isn't her stage name even a shout out?

Yeah, this. The David Bowie makeup thing is CERTAINLY an intentional homage, and yes her stage name is an homage.

I do think she has a fair amount of originality, and I actually think that some of those matchups in the secret are a BIT of a stretch, but she definitely does a lot of homages and retro throwbacks.

I'm not somebody who praises Gaga for originality, but it's pretty damn hard to find an outfit that hasn't been used in some way before, especially when some comparisons are really reaching. And especially when she never does casual, so she needs a crazy headline-grabbing outfit pretty much every day. Plus, a lot of her stuff is a homage, particularly that Madonna one top-left. I think it's more her fans going overboard praising her as the second-coming of fashion than her standing there saying "nobody has ever worn this before, I am so special".

That being said, she does do a lot of homages and retro throwbacks, so a lot of it is deliberate. I mean the David Bowie makeup thing? She was NOT trying to pass that off as her own idea. Seriously.

But the woman has hundreds of outfits, and a lot of them aren't homages and really... are pretty original.

Homage or not, I find her fans annonying. Lady Gaga pretty much embodies what media is today. A bunch of rehashes and remakes. I'm not surprised the amount of praise she gets for it. Practically everything else does, so why not her? I liked her when she was more open about being a parody and basically trolling the media, but I think she's buying into too much now to save face. I don't know her, so I don't know if she believes the bullshit she promotes, but half the world seems to which makes me facepalm so hard.

Really its her fans that are the worst and make claims like that. They make me dislike her by association even though she seems like she works hard and is talented. I always find myself liking her singles then when she gets to the chorus it sounds more like another over produced cynical bit of fluff meant to make bank instead of legit interesting music.
