13x7 OTP. They need to run away and make beautiful wanky babies together.

*has popcorn ready*

That would be epic... O_o

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
can we just move to dreamwidth? no one even comes on livejournal anymore. this is not a christmas lull.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
No thanks. I'll take fewer and better comments over a busy post complaining about how boring the secrets are any day. I'm actually happy there's a decrease in the more inane activity.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Except, outside like 3 or so yesterday, F!S HAS been boring as hell. I want 40+ again.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Curious which three you're referring too.

And yeah, we had some fun ones at christmas though.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
No.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure, you go on ahead.

We'll, uh... be right behind you. Just gotta... do some stuff first.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Can we at least put this issue on the table again (not now, maybe, but once LJ actually gives us a news update)?

I charted the number of comments on posts from 11/1 to 1/7 for both 2010-11 and 2011-12 (I didn't include this past week since I felt like the numbers would continue to rise since they're still pretty recent, but they're all in the 500-900 range at the moment).

The comment style change happened 12/21(ish). Level of commenting throughout November is about the same as last year, but then activity went UP last year around this time, while, this year, activity is going down slightly. It's not really that significant overall, and it might improve, but this is still kind of depressing.

IDK, I'm still on the fence about whether we should move to Dreamwidth, but I think we should keep that option open.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
No.

The community voted to stay. Deal with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
The community voted not to move on 1/1/2012. I didn't vote, but I would have voted not to move either because I felt it was way too early to tell what LiveJournal was planning. Now, though, my flist is like a graveyard and I haven't heard anything from LJ in weeks. This sucks.

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I won't follow. But you all can go. I love LJ too much, sorry.
ext_81845: penelope, my art/character (general concern)

I knew Girl with the Dragon Tattoo dealt with rape but I didn't know the American remake had a graphic rape scene. That might be a deal-breaker (sucks because I heard it was pretty good)

I can't even watch Perfect Blue without fast-forwarding the rape part, rape scenes just make me all kinds of uncomfortable ugh

[identity profile] bondlesseye.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
More than one, actually, and some rather graphic still photos from cases that she and the other protagonist investigate. You could fast-forward through most of it alright, but you'd lose some important plot if you don't at least listen during Lisbeth's revenge. (Or, failing that, have someone tell you what happened.)

Assuming the films follow the books, the second two movies should be more watchable for you- there's psychiatric abuse and general violence, but it's less sexual in nature.

OT but your icon. Starbuck. Love Starbuck so much.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, America?

I like you. But remaking foreign films is a dickish thing to do for a country whose cultural influence has reached 'seriously fucking stifling' decades ago.

I'm not gonna insult your intelligence by suggesting you're too lazy to read subtitles, but I'd really like to know what the fucking deal is if it isn't that.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
(Not-American)

Pretty much this, but I think Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is more a novel's adaptation than a foreign film remake.

[identity profile] dorknessrising.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's called "money." Simply importing and subtitling a foreign film doesn't net the American film industry nearly as much cash as producing and marketing their own remake.

The U.S. isn't the only one that does that, either. Bollywood (Hindi cinema) is just as shameless about it.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
The American film industry has completely swamped almost every foreign market in the world with Adam Sandler being purposefully dense and Jim Carrey pulling faces. You kinda start to notice that this shit is completely unfair when perfectly good movies are being remade for the American market. Yeah, money drives the force behind remakes. That doesn't make it any less of a dick move.

Hey, but thanks for assuming I don't know shit about capitalism. That was admirably patronising of you. (By the way, it's called "rhetorical question.)

Having seen both versions (and the other two Swedish films as well), I don't know that a remake/new adaptation was strictly necessary, but the different actors do bring different things to their roles- and ultimately I found myself preferring Mara's rendition of Lisbeth over Rapace's.

(At the same time, I think Nyqvist was a much better Blomkvist. Go figure.)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, it's way easier for me to watch the original films on Netflix than drive all they way to the theater and pay extra just to watch the movie in English. :-/ Maybe streaming will one day stem the flow of Hollywood remakes? /Wishful thinking.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care if they remake foreign films but I prefer it when they make the originals available here as well.

Although seriously I admit sometimes I like the remakes better. I thought the American remake of The Ring was a lot scarier.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the American version of the Grudge better, too. I'd be annoyed if they remade the Whispering Corridors series in the US (even if it might streamline that wacky-ass plot).

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is it that the dumbest shit get the most comments? Hetalia, Harry Potter, Twilight, Disney is controversy... Stupid.
