I don't care about Lola's design. Either way, the kids like watching it, and I like seeing her have an actual personality beyond "literal Playboy Bunny". I think you have some Nostalgia Goggles on when it comes to Space Jam.

PC Police Station -->

LOL it really just does.

(da)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
because apparently people don't have different interests.

[identity profile] sarahofcroydon.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, exactly. Human Ipod!Sherlock was frankly ridiculous, and I didn't care for Moffat's "lesbian dominatrix who ultimately falls at a man's feet overcome by his manly rationalism" Adler at all.

I agree... RDJ does such a fantastic take on Holmes, and he's a great actor- the way he acts with his body is wonderful and more subtle than Cucumber's wild flailing (the 'frightened Sherlock' scene in Hounds was way over the top).

He's athletic, watchful, mad, an asshole and loveable at the same time and you can really perceive why Watson stays with him. He's addicted. I enjoy the BBC version, but Holmes there seems to stay with Sherlock in a carer role, more than anything else. I much prefer the jolly romp through old London town, and it's far more masterful than the 'Hollywood faff' discredit people give to it rather than the over the top Moffat-thinks-he's-clever text overlays.

...Watson, I mean Watson seems to stay in a carer role, durr. I honestly can't see why anyone would like the cruel man Cumberbatch's Sherlock is.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously?! You prefer Moffat's "lesbian" who is sexually attracted to a man who waves his ~total dominance~ and ~manly lack of emotion~ in her emotional weak lady-face and rubs it in by saving her super-hero style with a big fat phallic knife over lovely Rachel who is still very much her own woman and isn't totally overwhelmed by her sexuality and doesn't let it compromise her?

Ok then.

It's actually a really great plot-driven show, from what I remember (it's been almost a decade since I've watched it). Female secret agents, assassins, secret identities, international crime families...the romantic connections I'd say are secondary, especially in the first half of the series. I'd definitely recommend it.

This. I love the differences for challenging my interpretations of character, and for providing new insight into the source material.

[identity profile] honestys-easy.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not for these people, but I feel the exact same way.

[identity profile] skinst-bomb.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Re-read what exactly? :/ Pretty much every user whose commented has simply wished the OP luck or told of their own stories of abortion. No pedestal or anything.

[identity profile] honestys-easy.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Only if Snoop Dogg plays Moriarity.

[identity profile] honestys-easy.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, Kristen Wiig does the voice for Lola?

That makes so much more sense now.

Generally I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, until they express a heinously offensive belief or opinion. Then we're done. Wanting to take away my right to my own body and turn me into a brood-mare for the state is a heinously offensive opinion. I don't spend my spare time concentrating on hating these people, but when they impinge on my awareness, that's the response they get. Not draining at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like g_a, the whole fandom doesn't partake in BNF bashing.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I could care less, but wow yeah that is an ugly design.

[identity profile] azaelers.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* You'll do perfectly fine.

[identity profile] azaelers.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
What? Whaaaaaat?

Who the hell could hate Elena?

I just- whaaaaaaat?

[identity profile] dgcatanisiri.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't like Bonnie during her relationship with Jeremy. I grant that it was the way that the writers made it happen more than it was Bonnie herself, but when it came down to it, it felt to me like she was using him as a link to something normal in the midst of the craziness of the world around him more than her genuinely being interested in him. Since I count Jeremy as one of my favorite characters, it bothered me. The funniest thing is that I finally bought their relationship last episode as she was saying goodbye and the relationship already over.

Aside from the Bonnie/Jeremy relationship, though, I do like her.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
So agreed! The settings and such don't matter to me as mmuch as the characters and how they interact.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Because sexuality is fluid and not binary, if John is straight and has romantic feelings for Sherlock that are not sexual why can't Irene have sexual feelings for Sherlock that aren't romantic and express a desire to fuck him because he's brilliant

Because Irene was not sexually attracted to Sherlock acc. to the ACD canon, much less flirting with him every time they had a scene together, I like RDJ's interaction with every other person in the movie but all the eyefucking with their mouths hanging open like they were about to start licking each other's faces was just awkward

Because I like the Magnificent Bastards theory that the whole Sherlock & Irene thing was comeuppance for Mycroft and Moriarty who just thought they knew everything that was going on and really the two of them played big brother and the criminal mastermind like, well, fiddles by taking their mental attraction and making it look like she was falling for him to get her off and help her escape and also in large measure for the lulz

The idea that emotions make you weak is a fallacy that is constantly disproven in the context of the show by the existence of John Watson, and the symbolism of Rachel's Irene being trussed up and hung in a slaughterhouse full of meat with a gag in her mouth was lost on you, you require a phallic sword to set off your alarms

Whatever, anon. BBC!Irene didn't spend her final scenes knocked out by a single madman, she required a whole terrorist cell to take her down, so yeah, she wins

Being asked to save the life of your own child isn't the same as being a brood-mare for the state. Especially not since in 95% of the cases you were responsible for creating that child in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to clarify that I meant to reread my comment, bit maybe you should re-read the others, too, if you missed all the all the "You're so brave! That's so awesome! Good for you!" in many the above comments. Because that's a far cry from "Good luck. I hope it all goes well. Here's my story."

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no! I literally just got a message from the library today saying the book was in- I was 40th in line, I almost forgot I had it on order- so that's disappointing. Would you mind telling me what you found a let down so I can go in prepared? I'd rather know in advance, rather than have hope and then be crushed it doesn't live up to expectations.
