HBC as Mme. Thenardier I can see, even if she annoys the hell out of me. I'm more disappointed about Russel Crowe as Javert. His voice just isn't low enough for my taste, but I'm also an admitted OLC Les Mis snob and only Roger Allam will ever be the "right" Javert for me.

I'm sorry... but I really cannot see how she's better than Lea Michele. Heck, even without the comparison, I'm struggling to see Taylor Swift belt out "On My Own" (though I've probably been spoilt with Lea Salonga's version) because I find her voice kinda... flat. I do enjoy her songs but I never saw her voice as anything noteworthy, I only give her credit for being able to write her feelings out in a way that's simple and relateable.

Seriously, can you give me more points as to how she would do it better? Cause I really cannot see it.

I honestly thought it was a joke when I heard she'd been offered the role. She's just so... not Eponine. I'm not gonna hate, but holy shit how high do you have to be to think that that is good casting?

I actually quite like the rest of the cast though, so, idk, I'll try and give her the benefit of the doubt I guess.

Why this role? I know she played Cosette before, but that's not my point.
She just... doesn't do it for me. There are other people more suitable for this role than Michele or Swift.

I'm disagreeing with you about HBC. She didn't 'ruin' Sweeney Todd. She auditioned for Stephen Sondheim and he gave Tim Burton the okay to cast her. My friends and myself thought she was wonderful in that role. I'm looking forwartd to seeing her in Les Mis.

I don't care one way or another about Swift. I've heard worse Eponines.

Les Mis fan for over ten years, and I'll watch this. People are taking it too seriously. The original will still be here after this is made. There have been a thousand takes on Les Mis and will be a thousand more. But I like the book more than the musical, anyway.

Swifty is an odd casting choice to me, but a few of her songs are kinda the 2012 teen pop version of "On My Own," so I'll be interested to see what she does with it.

But YES HBC did ruin Sweeney Todd. She is a fantastic actress and I love her and everything, but she was awful in that. No singing voice at all and played the character all wrong (though I understand she was actually directed into said wrongness and it isn't her fault, but still). Thought the film was great apart from that (and the chorus being gone in songs where you MUST HAVE A CHORUS, TIM BURTON) and felt like I was living in opposite land when everyone else praised her and trashed the rest of the film.

When I found out about Taylor Swift being offered Eponine, I posted the angriest rant ever on Facebook. And I got response of, "But think of all the new fans shell introduce to Les Miserables!" Me: "Then they might as well cast Justin Bieber as Gavroche, too."
I mean, seriously. It cannot be justified. It makes me so angry. Les Mis and musicals in general are really important to me. I hate when Hollywood has to go and do shit like this.
