I know wank is coming your way so before it hits let me say, THIS: I hate how the same subtext that makes a het pair "canon" for each other will be ignored or brushed off if the two characters are of the same sex."

The second Sherlock Holmes movie would've been called a dashing romance if one of them was a woman.

Yeah, though most of the secret is BS, I do agree with that part. Though, don't most people call that movie a romance anyways? xD But in a joking way, not a serious one like if one of them were a woman, so I guess it still stands. If one of them were a woman, most of the audience would be "ooh"-ing at that dancing scene instead of laughing.

Yeah, it's like XFM. If the Prof or Magneto were a lady, the film would have been called a romance... I mean, even the actors think so: http://www.eonline.com/news/magneto_professor_x_had_sex_movies_this/250387

Yeah, despite the whole OBVIOUS TROLL SECRET IS OBVIOUS vibe, I completely agreed with that line. It's a ridiculous double standard, and so many people refuse to acknowledge it. If two men's character interactions would have been read as canonical het romance between a man and woman, it's silly to adamantly proclaim "they're just friends and all other interpretations are invalid fujoshit!"
I also dislike it in reverse, when I'm watching a movie with a great male-female friendship and then all of a sudden makeouts out of nowhere! Because that great friendship was obviously a buildup to romance even though it felt totally platonic because they are a man and woman!

Yeah that's the one oddly true thing that stands out amidst all the trolling. Despite all of the "can't two men ever have a relationship that is non-sexual" whinging that goes on directed at the slash crowd, the het crowd will not only immediately assume a het pairing is romantic with the same - or far, far less - interaction and have zero qualms about it. Ah, hypocrisy.

The worse part is they're often right.

This. The OP is trolling but this line is very, very true.

yes, this.
