I don't think this would happen. George Lucas wouldn't want anyone to touch his precious. He would have to do it himself, if it were to be done. I would be more interested in seeing the other stories be filmed, but Lucas keeps bull-shitting around.

I love the Star Wars universe and I prefer the original trilogy to the prequels, but part of the charm of the originals is how they've obviously aged and finding the stitching in the seams.

What Lucas doesn't get is that fans love Star Wars not because it's perfect but because it's silly, fun, and has a lot of hilarious flaws.

I'd love to see a remake like J.J. Abrams did with Star Trek. I think if the story were taken more seriously than I think it was in the original and didn't overuse CGI like the prequels did it could be an awesome film.

Then after that they can remake the god-awful prequels so that they make more sense(Natalie Portman would reprise her role as Padme though)

It's fun trying to imagine who would be cast in the iconic parts.

I don't see how knowing those things would make that much of a difference.

When I imagine them making a remake I immediately think it would be too long, with too many special effects and take itself way too seriously.

you're right, it would get a ton of flack, not just for whatever poor bastard got saddled with the nigh-impossible task of trying to be a better Han Solo than Harrison Ford, but pretty much everything about it would be widely hated. Some people would like them. Those people would get dogpiled. You underestimate nerd rage, my friend =) especially with a crowd that's been burned so consistently by the creator of the shit they love, fucking with his legacy over and over and over in one transparent cash grab after another

I agree, as long as George Lucas was locked in a room somewhere and not allowed to touch anything. And a very rigorous editor, both visually and for the script.

The secret didn't load fully for me initially, and my one comment was BUT WHAT ABOUT HAN? WHO WOULD PLAY HIM? Then the rest of the secret loaded haha. We'd have to get an unknown for Han, I think, cause I really can't think of anyone who would be as badass as Harrison Ford.

Shite. The more I think about this, the more I really want it. And may actually try writing it

I'm sure this would actually have potential to be enjoyable in a lot of ways, in some imaginary world where this would ever happen. But in the end I think the corny adventure style of the originals just wouldn't translate well into modern movies. That's part of what was so awkward and unremarkable about the prequel trilogy. (You know, that as well as how they were just so disappointingly crappy in general.)

If anything it would probably have to be a complete reimagining of the canon with almost as much of its own identity as the new BSG. Lots of old fans would hate this but depending on which aspects of the original story were intact or maybe even more elaborated on, I could be all over it. (Look at what you have me thinking about now, damn. LOL.)

George Lucas would have to die before this happened. I wish I was joking, but it's the truth. As long as he's alive there's no way he'd agree to a full blown remake. I think it would be cool, but I'd be down if there was perhaps another movie made within the same universe following the adventures of a different Jedi or mercenary/smuggler. And by movie I don't mean some thrown together animated straight-to-video movie, but a legit spinoff. That's probably the closest we'd get to a remake anyways.

Maybe, since we got a Star Trek reboot that was just the plot of Star Wars, instead of a movie they could do a Star Wars series that was like Star Trek! Older, competent Luke Skywalker and his crew travelling through space, exploring new planets, with the Evil Empire always lurking around the Neutral Zone. Han Sulu would be the swashbuckling navigator, Leia could be communications, Chewbacca on engineering, and of course thousands of red-loinclothed Ewoks! Brilliant!

A friend and I went to see Episode I in 3-D and when we came out that is exactly what I was saying. Can you imagine what these could be if Lucas was taken out of them and decent dialogue and directing were to happen? I would love to see a grittier, WAY less Jar-Jar cheesy version of these, man. It would be so great.

I love just about everyone here right now for the general consensus everyone seems to have reached on #10. No, seriously.

Ever since I found out what the term "ableist" meant and how there are people willing to flip out on you for using the word in a totally not-related-to-disabilities-in-the-slightest way, I panicked: "OMG, I'VE BEEN OFFENDING PEOPLE ALL THESE YEARS AND NEVER KNEW IT, I'LL OFFEND PEOPLE IF I SAY ANY OF THESE WORDS" (Uh, yes, I am a bit on the paranoid side).

THE HECK WITH IT. I will NEVER use those words to offend people, and I refuse to be made into a neurotic mess because I'm apparently an OMG-TERRIBLE-PERSON for EVER using those words.
