ITA. I mean, I sort of get why people like it because certain elements are intriguing. I can't get into it because other elements are just squicky to me.

I don't mind that it's everywhere, I'll scroll past it for now and eventually it will go away. I do mind when on the kinkmeme someone leaves an interesting prompt and it's filled with an omegaverse fill. If they didn't say that's what they wanted or that they were ok with that, then don't. Because the OP might hate it and most people will now glance over the prompt thinking it's filled.

Because the OP might hate it

Yeah, sometimes when I write prompts, I find myself wanting to say, "And could you please not include ____", but it feels kinda rude, ya know...? So I either have to be rude, or take the chance that someone's going to include something I don't like when they fill the prompt.

[identity profile] piepeloe.livejournal.com 2012-03-11 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Sometimes people go: 'I might fill it, but would you mind if I...' and people always go 'yes, of course that would be great'. I wonder how many people actually mean that.

Of course, sometimes it's ok and it's something minor. But I imagine most people don't want their prompt set in a specific AU the author's a fan of or filled with OCs they might not know.

I've always asked - politely - not to include people I don't especially want to see having sex in "anyone" prompts - for example, in Star Trex XI RPF I don't really want Eric Bana, too many associations with his early comedy persona for me, so I'll politely say "any slash pairing but please don't include Eric" or something like that. I've never heard it was rude.

I've not heard it's rude, it just seems like it would be. Esp since, in many cases, I know the characters I don't like are really popular. For example, I can't stand Moriarty, but most of Sherlock fandom seems to love him.

I don't think it's rude. The whole point of writing a prompt is that you're hoping someone will respond with a fic you'll enjoy, and there are things you don't enjoy. (I'm not thrilled with Moriarty either, btw.) So it's better to be up front about what you'd rather not have than to try to be polite to someone who filled your prompt with a story that makes you want to curl up in a corner and die.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-03-18 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're got a good point. And you can be polite about it... "I'd love to see [prompt]. Please don't include [x character(s)], thanks."
Cool. (-:

This. Social/Biological constructs not based in binary genders? Very interesting
mpreg, implied futanari, and pseudo bestiality? no thanks, not my cup of tea.

But I love the fact that it's so clearly labeled so I can avoid it without problems.

[identity profile] nyxelestia.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
If you like the gender construct mash-up but not the mpreg and pseudo-bestiality, you could try BDSM AU's (not fics with BDSM smut, but actually set in a D/s-based universe). Those tend to still contain an element of kink to them but usually have a pretty good way of taking conventional genders and turning them on their head.

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thanks! I'll look for those then.
Uhm... at the risk of sound silly... they're usually tagged D/s? I'm very new to the fandom...

[identity profile] nyxelestia.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, in Sherlock fandom at least they were often tagged something like "D/s verse" or "BDSM verse" or "D/s AU"/"BDSM AU".

You can start here (http://fanlore.org/wiki/BDSM_AU) to learn more, if it helps. :)

I've seen a couple of those that I've really liked that fooled around with the sub/dom dynamics. There was one where homosexuality was perfectly acceptable, but sub/sub and dom/dom relationships were controversial. I want to see more AUs like *that.*
