While they might not need to worry about it (unless you're on say, Tumblr), that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Someone having it far worse doesn't remotely negate another problem.

Please, tell me you just didn't compare being physically attacked on the streets, discriminated against, and being fired off your job in RL with a flame war in Tumbler, and that it was a bad attempt at a joke.

Seriously, it's not the same. There's no such thing as heterophobia. And being told 'you're a bigot because you don't like slash' is rude, yes, but it doesn't belong in the same galaxy as the very real consequences of homophobia.

I didn't compare it. Please read what I actually wrote:

And of course they're equally important in the 'we've got to solve this' scale.

Maybe you weren't meaning to compare the two, and that's why I asked you to clarify, but it really sounds like you're saying that there's such a thing as straight bashing, and that, while less serious as gay bashing, it's a problem to be fought.

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I never compared them, I stated that it is also a problem, because, LE GASP, it does also happen. Maybe not on the same scale, but you said it doesn't exist, and you're flat wrong.

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh look at that (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterophobia), it even has a wiki page!

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So does Reverse Racism. And mysandrism.

And a few others where the majority suddenly feels threatened because one minority is asking for equality. Doesn't make them a problem.

not a problem to you ≠ not a problem

(Anonymous) 2012-03-12 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . Did you really just cite Wikipedia?

Massive fail, right there.
ext_40256: (Default)

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't cite it, dumbass, I said it has a page. For someone trying to be on my ass about using wikipedia as a source (which I did not), you sure don't know what the fuck you're saying.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-14 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, and here come the ad hominems.

I'm "on your ass" about it because randomly linking to a website that can be edited by practically anyone isn't exactly a persuasive argument. Like, at all.
ext_40256: (Default)

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I literally said it has a wiki page, because it's apparently a "thing" enough to warrant a page. I didn't cite it, I didn't use is as an argument in the slightest. You would be better off actually reading what people say than trying to infer to make shit up.

It's hardly random when it's the entire fucking subject. Is it so hard to use critical thinking on F!S?

That's rhetorical, since I know there's going to be some dumbass who actually tries to answer it.

[identity profile] were-lemur.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Tumblr? You're comparing people being beaten to death to "worrying" about something on TUMBLR?

What. The. Actual. FUCK!?

ext_40256: (Default)

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
jesus christ is everyone on F!S too stupid to actually read?

[identity profile] were-lemur.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's review. My comment was about how straight people (unlike LGBT people) don't have to worry about being physically attacked for their orientation. Your response was:

While they might not need to worry about it (unless you're on say, Tumblr), that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You're comparing gay people getting beaten (sometimes to death) to straight people getting called homophobes on Tumblr. One of these things is not like the other.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
roflmao wow, you're just too stupid (and butthurt) for words.
ext_40256: (Default)

[identity profile] kartos.livejournal.com 2012-03-19 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What exactly am I "butthurt" about? I would love to know, seeing how I'm not remotely pissed off/upset/annoyed/etc. LOLOLOL god you're dumb.

[identity profile] vickyblueeyez.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
What the comment was saying was that Heterophobia does exist and is more prevalent on Tumblr which is full of slashy fangirls. Fandom is different from the real world. In the real world, het is all over the place. No one bashes it. Go into fandom and it's all slash where het is the minority, hated and scarce. Am I the only one that actually read this comment?

[identity profile] oparu.livejournal.com 2012-03-14 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that het is a minority, often hated and scarce. Femslash is scarce too, not hated (I say this because I've never seen that), but ignored.

Sometimes I wonder if it's less heterophobia and more lack of interest in relationships that involve women.

So much of fandom is about male/male relationships, which is great in a way because it's supporting homosexuality and it's still hard to be homosexual out in the real world. I like that part about fandom.

Yet homosexuality isn't just about men, so it's not just supporting/protecting the homosexuals because there's little to no mention of women and women are also gay.

There's a really tiny amount of fic about bisexuals too. I am offtopic and need my own secret, clearly.
