*I don't like that Jak is back to his angst-ridden state. In Jak II, he grows from an innocent boy who basically got cynical and out for vengeance. But over the course of the game, Jak (though never returning to his once optimistic days) starts to regain the heroic status that he had before. Jak 3 demolishes all that and I'm annoyed Naughty Dog had to basically write a plot to make Jak all "I don't care about people or the world, they suuuuck" until he had to basically remind himself he's out to save the world. I totally get the people punishing Jak for the crimes he did commit in Jak II, but it's such a backwards character development that displeases me. 'Course, I tend to like Nice!Jak more than Emo Angst!Jak
*The Metal Heads. Useless in the main storyline. They had a general purpose at first when they took over one section of Haven City, but their purpose suddenly deteriorates over the course of the story. At this rate, I would have rather they all died down in Jak II when the leader did. I don't know, make it some magic hive mind or something. It's an irksome case of gameplay separated from storyline.
*This is more an extension of the Metal Heads, but the general conflict of the war on Haven City - at first intriguing - falls apart in favor of the Save The World plot by end. They never resolve whether the Metal Heads or the Krimzon Guards or whoever managed to win Haven City. By Jak X, we're automatically suppose to assume the heroes win. Durn it, I want an onscreen conclusion.
*Erol. He was a fascinating character in Jak II; a rival for Keira's affection. He was hellbent crazy and insane and did anything to defeat Jak because he's a "dark eco freak" and of course, jealously. The third game takes all that away and makes him the main baddie with no motivation. He's just "The Bad Guy".
*Ottsels as Precursors. Okay, I think the scene is very funny and I don't really have as much vehement hatred as before. The creators really did do a good job surprising the hell out of us with this scene...I still hate it regardless.
*Jak/Ashelin. I have nothing against the pairing; it just came out of nowhere. No explanation on why. Jak and Keira certainly didn't get together in the last two games, but their romance was definite and clear. Where did Jak/Ashelin come from? I didn't even know the game was going in that direction until the offscreen kiss by the ending.
I think that's it. The only thing I really loved about Jak 3 is Damas and Jak's relationship. That was awesome. Oh, Seem was great, too. But overall, Jak 3's story was a mess and I disliked it. Jak X, though an iffy racing game, has a better storyline.

For me, I was deeply confused on why Jak was so angry in Jak 3, and I heard how Baron Praxis did Dark Eco experiments on him, so I was expecting it to be more elaborated on. When I finally started Jak 2, and all it said was 2 YEARS LATER, I was a bit miffed, tbh. It seemed so handwaved to me. (Although, I'm expecting that comment to bite me in the ass, cuz maybe it is elaborated on). I'm much more of a fan of Nice!Jak, too. Been getting sick of angst in general, lately.
I can't comment on Errol, since I don't know what's going on with him, apart from him deciding to turn the world to shit for no reason, which I agree with is silly. Same goes with the Metal Heads. I just assumed they were the typical bad guys who you must shoot.
Lol, I loved that you hate, cuz I thought it was the funniest thing ever. That was definitely something I never expected.
I always thought that the endgame would be Jak/Keira, based on the ending of Jak and Daxter, with that almost-kiss. I don't like how they drop storylines without any explanations, since it seems to me that Keira has some feelings for him in Jak 2. So I was also surprised by Jak/Ashelin (Although I wasn't a fan of that love triangle aspect in Jak 2. Really, guys? Do you have to resort to such unnecessary conflict and make 2 girls fight, when they can be awesome on their own? If they're gonna do character development, they might as well go the whole way)
Basically my thoughts on Jak 3 was "Well, maybe it'll all make sense if I play Jak 2". I still enjoyed the gameplay very much, and I LOVED the plot point with Damas. Although, I hate how my sister took one look at Damas and said "That's his dad", so I didn't get to feel that surprised moment. And I never plan playing Jak X, since racing games don't appeal to me.

Without spoiling, Jak does go through character development in Jak 2, so his angst state in Jak 3 peeved me off because it rewinds it all back.
"and I heard how Baron Praxis did Dark Eco experiments on him, so I was expecting it to be more elaborated on. When I finally started Jak 2, and all it said was 2 YEARS LATER, I was a bit miffed, tbh."
I guess it's handwaved in the context that Naughty Dog wanted to make it "darker and edgier". I've always hate it when people turn something that was originally lighthearted into dark, angsty, violent crap because oftentimes, it doesn't work. I was 17 when Jak 2 came out, so maybe there's some nostalgia, but I think Jak 2 did the "darker/edgier" thing fairly well. Mainly because the story and characters are excellent and prior, there was only one Jak game and it barely had a story (but you can tell it had elements to world-build it). I do miss the colorful worlds though. People can criticize "The Lost Frontier" all they want, but I think that game is arguably the closest to the first one and I liked that aspect.
"Lol, I loved that you hate, cuz I thought it was the funniest thing ever. That was definitely something I never expected."
The commentary in Jak 3 made it pretty clear the Precursors = Ottsels was a retcon purely for the third game. I don't really like it.
"(Although I wasn't a fan of that love triangle aspect in Jak 2. Really, guys? Do you have to resort to such unnecessary conflict and make 2 girls fight, when they can be awesome on their own? If they're gonna do character development, they might as well go the whole way)"
The love triangle in Jak 2 is really Keira/Jak/Erol. Ashelin doesn't flirt with Jak at all (she merely compliments him and there's a reason why she doesn't feel anything for Jak, but again, that would spoil). Keira is the one who suspects and jumps the gun by assuming something that isn't there. Ashelin doesn't even fight back; Jak jumps in and puts a stop to it. It's the only time this occurs and I can assure you, there is no Jak/Keira/Ashelin love triangle in Jak 2.
"I still enjoyed the gameplay very much, and I LOVED the plot point with Damas. Although, I hate how my sister took one look at Damas and said "That's his dad", so I didn't get to feel that surprised moment. And I never plan playing Jak X, since racing games don't appeal to me."
I would have liked the gameplay fine if Jak 3 was mostly fixing the issues Jak II had. It improved, but that's all it did: it improved, but didn't stand on its own grounds. Then again, I tend to dislike third games in a trilogy - it's a reoccuring pattern.
As for the Damas thing...honestly, I saw that coming. It was pretty blatant by the time Damas questions if Jak has a father and he replies that he doesn't.

I've only listened to the commentary once, so I'm gonna go back to look for when they mentioned that. I can see how you'd hate a ret-con. If they thought of it from the start, I'd love it even more.
I just assumed, based on that one scene so I'm glad it's not happening. I'm kinda curious to see how Errol goes about it with Keira, so I'll try to finish the game quickly.
Yea, that was the one scene she saw. I didn't notice, but I normally don't bother with guessing how a story will turn out cuz I like surprises. Also, I'm usually more wrong than right.
