I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I do think in a way, it's worse. Not THAT much worse, but still there's an extra variable to contend with. Think of it this way, if a man rapes a lesbian to make a point, he's not just violating her body, he's persecuting her sexuality too. Again, it doesn't make as huge of a difference as some people say it does...but imho it's still just a little bit worse. (Moreso if it's specifically done because the rapist actually thinks the victim just needs a proper experience, or some bull)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-23 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, let's look at it this way. Is rape "better" for a straight woman, because she likes dick anyway, so...?

What? No?

Then it's not worse for any other orientation.

No one said 'regular' rape is better, but it does add another, different layer to an already horrible experience.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

No, no it really doesn't. It's still rape and it's still fucking awful and there are no competitions in who got raped the worst.

WORD WORD WORD WORD.

No it doesn't. It doesn't "add" another layer, it just includes a different layer. Rape is bad no matter who you are, what you identify as, and who's doing the raping. It can include different layers of bad for different people, but there is no worse/better to the equation.

new anon here

I think that's a rather important distinction in terminology. Maybe (and I might be giving some people more credit than they deserve) what people mean when they say "it's worse" is actually "it's different".

Which I'd agree to. An asexual person could have a different reaction to rape than a sexual person. Really, when you get down to it, all people will have different reactions and experiences - but what it all comes down to is rape is a horrible thing for everyone.

I'm a gay woman who has been raped by both a man and a woman. If anything, being raped by a woman had more of an impact on my future consensual relationships.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But rape is not about sexuality. Would you say the same for a lesbian being raped by a man? A gay man being raped by a woman? A woman being raped by another woman? etc etc etc

Rape is awful and bad. End of story.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-23 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't understand that disconnect, and think it's overused. I mean, yes, rape isn't some manifestation of "too much lust" or anything retarded like that, but there is a sexual, albeit sexually assaulting, aspect to it. It's not some entirely seperated act, or you wouldn't see rape victums ever have hangups about sex afterwards.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but that sexual assault is present no matter who you are. It's not about sexuality in the sense that it's a traumatic experience who ever you are.

Also, if you want to make a point and have people actually take you seriously, I'd refrain from using the word "retarded" in your argument.

[identity profile] countess-k.livejournal.com 2012-03-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Came to say this. Rape is not about the presence or absence of pleasure. Rape is about assertion of power and taking it away from the other person. X raped Y is horrible, period, regardless who or what X and Y are.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. This.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck that shit. Rape is disgusting and horrible period. Damn asexuals trying to be special raped snowflakes.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Did the secret say asexuals were saying that? If you use your reading comprehension you'll see its two mods trying to use the orientation to add a special layer to their prompt. Scroll down a bit and you'll see a few asexuals disagreeing with the idea so make sure you know all the facts before you blatantly accuse a whole group of people of something.

Wondering when they will come up with a word for this raging intolerance against asexuals and bisexuals. Maybe then people would realize their prejudice is no better than that of homophobes and racists.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
lmao

8/10

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry but a lot of asexual are special snowflakes.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
a lot of people like to think they are special snowflakes for a lot of different reason, regardless of sexual orientation.

Tbh you'd be lucky that people know what asexuality is. Most of the time no one gives a fuck.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Dude--don't lump bisexuals into your little spiel.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
YOU'RE A TERRIBLE FUCKING PERSON AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR WHAT YOU'VE JUST SAID HERE

[identity profile] streetcake.livejournal.com 2012-03-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
What I want to know is why people feel the need to say this at all. Like, I assume you think all rape is horrible but you just want everyone to know you think some rape survivors had it worse than others? What's the point of even saying that? How does it help anything at all? You know, it's okay to keep some things to yourself.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
idk but I don't think a straight/gay rape victim is more attracted to their rapist than any asexual.....

And as someone pointed out, being raped but the sex you're attracted to really doesn't help future relationships.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-24 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a gay woman and my rapist was a woman too. I think it actually fucked me up more than it would have if she'd been a man. Before it happened, I was young, but I knew my orientation and was pretty confident in it. After, I couldn't trust other women, I thought that since I didn't enjoy it I had to be straight, I thought that since she was a girl and I had a crush on her, it couldn't have been rape. I got into a lot of relationships with guys that I didn't want to be in, I questioned my sexuality over it for years, and it was a lot harder to come out when I finally came to the same conclusion that I'd had before I was raped in the first place. It would have still been horrible if my rapist was a guy (assuming that he would still have the same motives), but I don't think it would have destroyed my sexual identity in the same way. (This is not to say what's worse for everyone, though- just my beliefs about my own experiences.)

I mean, if a man's raping a gay woman because he hates gay women, and she's aware of why he's doing it, then it's a hate crime on top of a rape and that might make it worse. I'm not very familiar with the asexual movement, but if somebody rapes an asexual person because they hate asexual people, and that asexual person is aware of why they're doing it, then it's probably also a hate crime. But that has nothing to do with whether the rapist is the kind of person they'd enjoy having sex with in the first place- it's that not only is the victim being subjected to a violent crime, it's that said violent crime is someone deciding that who they are is so repugnant that it warrants violent punishment. Also, if in a hate crime situation the victim's community finds out about the rape, then every other person in that group in the area is going to be fucking terrified they're next. All rapes are awful, but when it's a hate crime too, it's two things instead of one.

But sex pollen? Sex pollen is not sentient. It's not a person that can decide to commit a crime, it's not a person that can hate. It's just... pollen. That makes you have sex. Perhaps the asexual person there would feel extra violated because they're doing things that they never would do without the sex pollen, but wouldn't everybody else be doing things they'd never do otherwise too? In that situation it's really offensive to say it's worse, because "sexual" doesn't mean "is okay with sex in every possible set of conditions," dammit.
