I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I do think in a way, it's worse. Not THAT much worse, but still there's an extra variable to contend with. Think of it this way, if a man rapes a lesbian to make a point, he's not just violating her body, he's persecuting her sexuality too. Again, it doesn't make as huge of a difference as some people say it does...but imho it's still just a little bit worse. (Moreso if it's specifically done because the rapist actually thinks the victim just needs a proper experience, or some bull)

Have we had this dispute on here before? I swear I've read something similar recently.

And my 2 cents, as an asexual myself, I don't think it would necessarily be worse for an asexual to be raped than it would for a sexual person. No worse than it would be for a straight person to be raped by one of the same sex, or a gay person being raped by one of the opposite sex, thats pretty much the same thing- being forced to have sex against your sexual preference.

Not that it would be any easier for someone to be raped by a person of the gender they are attracted to, not at all. But being asexual doesnt make it any worse.

I wouldnt say it would exactly make it more bearable, but to me, sex is something I feel rather disconnected to, which might make it more possible to cope with.

But then again, I don't know, just my opinion.

I really wonder how many actual asexuals are of this opinion, versus sexuals who still don't really understand what we're about. I'm asexual, and I'm of the mind of "being forced to have sex against your will is REALLY BAD. Period." It's not something that we need to be in competition about. And since something like rape will have a different effect on each individual, trying to compare is beyond stupid, anyway.

I can agree with the mods to an extent. I mean, rape is horrible, period. To everyone. However, I can see where the mods are coming from. I think they're trying to say that because asexuals already have a deep aversion to sex. It's like they have to deal with that on top of the rape.

...though I guess one could argue that anyone in that position would have an aversion to sex. In that situation, a previously sexual victim would be just as disgusted/horrified by the idea of sex as an asexual reason...

so yeah, the mods are still wrong. Instead of running off to prosecute the mods/fest why don't you just try explaining your perspective on the issue? Sometimes people don't even realize they're being insensitive/ignorant/etc, and having people come at them like a pack of animals doesn't make anyone understand any better.

Like I've said before, as an asexual, my rape had a minimal effect on me. It was like facing any other kind of abuse for me personally. It was obviously a little more personal and uncomfortable for a number of reasons, but people who assume aces are automatically going to be more traumatised don't seem to understand what asexuality is. That's DEFINITELY not to say it isn't traumatising, because it obviously is. But speaking from experience (and on behalf of myself ONLY), this isn't collectively true.

...I think rape is worse for people who feel sexual attraction, actually. If you're asexual, it's horrible and wrong and scary and painful, but it's also minus the thought of "But what if I never want anyone else, even someone I love, to touch me again? What if I can't ever have sex without remembering this?"

Basically, being raped is traumatic, but asexuals probably don't have quite the same problem with recurring trauma.

I'm curious as to what people would say about repulsed-variant asexuals. As in, those who are not only not attracted to anyone, but also massively squicked or even terrified by the idea of performing a sexual act. Even if you believe it isn't worse for regular aces (indifferent-variant), could it theoretically be worse for these people? (Whether or not they are this way because of some mental maturity issue is a whole other debate and I would ask that it be kept out of this discussion, but...heck, I can't control what anyone else says.)

Can I just say as an asexual that I found that prompt *really* skeevy? Ugh.

And that's before you even touch the whole torture olympics of 'who has it worse'. I really feel for any survivors who stumbled across that prompt.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but I would think that it's less "OMG rape!" and more "OMG, being attracted to [person I'm not usually attracted to]!"

Maybe I just don't know what sex pollen is, but I take it to mean it's an aphrodisiac of sorts. This means the person under the influence would be randy and want to have sex they normally would not want to have sex with. This is worse if it goes against your typical sexual identity, as it's not just having sex under the influence, but it contradicts what may be a large part of your identity and question who you are. In the above mention it would be asexual people being randy and wanting a sexual partner. This could be even more damaging towards asexual people without a sex drive who suddenly experience one; like it or hate it.

oh this discussion...didn't we just have a secret a few days ago about how somebody barely even cared they were raped? i think it's safe to say that trauma is a highly personalized thing - everyone reacts differently, and there is really nothing in particular that can make you more or less susceptible to being traumatized than somebody else. it's so pointless to generalize here.

I have very severe vaginismus. It means that any attempt to insert something inside my vagina (even a finger or a tampax) results in excruciating pain. Sexual intercourse is incredibly painful and being raped was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, besides messing up my relationship with sex even more. However, the mere idea that my rape was worse than what another person may have experienced because of vaginismus is absolutely stupid. Rape is rape. Victims should stand together, not try to decide who had it worse.
