I'm curious as to what people would say about repulsed-variant asexuals. As in, those who are not only not attracted to anyone, but also massively squicked or even terrified by the idea of performing a sexual act. Even if you believe it isn't worse for regular aces (indifferent-variant), could it theoretically be worse for these people? (Whether or not they are this way because of some mental maturity issue is a whole other debate and I would ask that it be kept out of this discussion, but...heck, I can't control what anyone else says.)

There are people who are not asexual that are squicked or terrified by/of sex. But I think the problem here is you are still talking about levels or bad/worse, when rape is pretty fucking awful across the board. Would it be a different experience and have different traumas? Yes. Will it be worse? No.

Personally, I believe that people who are actively disgusted and repulsed by sex have a psychological condition unrelated to their sexual identity. Or are very immature. But that's probably an extremely unpopular opinion and unrelated to the topic at hand, so I'll just stop here.

I'm a 22 year old asexual who finds the idea of sex relatively disgusting- I'm not exactly repulsed, I just find it all a bit...urgh. And kissing for that matter. The whole tongue thing weirds me the hell out.

Just to reply to your point, people have often told me that I would 'grow out of it' and I'd mature into liking it. This hasnt happened so far, but I am not fixed in my sexuality if you know what I mean- I am asexual, but if for some reason it did turn out that I was an incredibly late bloomer, and I actually loooooove sex, then I would be willing to accept that about myself. However, I don't think it particularly likely.

As for psychological conditions- I have ADHD, but nothing else psychologically wrong with me (and I'm a psychologist, so I've been through a billion tests :D ).

Sorry if this has gone on a tangent, I just wanted to reply- I don't want to start an argument, I think your opinion is shared by a lot of people, and I'm happy to accept that. The only thing I can't accept is when people accuse me of doing it to be 'different'. Yeah, like I would choose to not be able to have a proper relationship because apparently round here no sex= no relationship.

AYRT

I think there is a difference between finding it a bit odd or urgh, and being repulsed and disgusted by the act. When someone is ill at the thought of sex or physically disgusted by it, that's when I think there is a separate issue.

And when I said "immature" I was thinking more along the lines of how grade school kids act - "kissing is gross!". I added the immature thing because a lot of teenagers that I've seen talking about their asexuality online come off as really immature for their age. They seem to be more "omg sex is so gross and weird!" than "sex is not for me" type. I'm asexual and I've gotten the "you'll like it when you're older" quite a few times. I'm 33, I'm pretty sure nothings going to change.

Hope this cleared things up? I have ADHD too, and it can make making my point clear and concise and understandable kind of difficult for me sometimes. Feel free to ask for clarification if something I said doesn't make sense.

Ah right, I get you, sorry for the confusion :)

I have to admit that when I was younger, I was in the kinda immature 'ew ickky sex' frame of mind (around my mid-late teens), but as I got older, I might not have grown into liking sex, but I did grow up in that I understood my objection to it more, if that makes any sense.

Heh, you've gotta wonder at what age people will just go 'you know, I've been saying this for years and you've never grown out of it, I'm gonna give up and let it go now' XD

And no worries, I'm terrible at getting my points clear half the time, I just didnt catch on to what you were saying at first :)

I'm sure at the time anyone who is getting fucked without permission is terrified of the idea of performing a sexual act.

So no.

I'm a 'repulsed-variant' asexual. I've got to admit being raped is one of my deepest fears. I've got no frame of reference for sex being a good thing, and I'm disgusted at even the thought of me participating in a sexual act.
Would rape be 'worse' for me? Perhaps my recovery would be harder than someone who had a healthy attitude towards sex to begin with; perhaps it would be easier because it would validate everything I've ever felt and believed about sex, where a sexual person could have something they'd enjoyed previously ruined for them.
But everyone reacts to trauma like rape in different ways. You can't take a group of people and say 'they'd find it worse' because that group is made of individuals who've all had different experiences and feelings and opinions. Rape is a violation and it's bad for everyone. The degree of impact it has on a person depends on who the person is, not what they are.
