Have we had this dispute on here before? I swear I've read something similar recently.

And my 2 cents, as an asexual myself, I don't think it would necessarily be worse for an asexual to be raped than it would for a sexual person. No worse than it would be for a straight person to be raped by one of the same sex, or a gay person being raped by one of the opposite sex, thats pretty much the same thing- being forced to have sex against your sexual preference.

Not that it would be any easier for someone to be raped by a person of the gender they are attracted to, not at all. But being asexual doesnt make it any worse.

I wouldnt say it would exactly make it more bearable, but to me, sex is something I feel rather disconnected to, which might make it more possible to cope with.

But then again, I don't know, just my opinion.

yeah, see, as an asexual I'm inclined to agree with your last point about being disconnected. I've never been raped so I of course have no idea how it would really pan out, but at least for asexuals we have no interest in future sexual relationships anyway. Sexuals might be so triggered by sex acts after being raped that they are put off from something they enjoyed for the rest of their lives.

There is one aspect I could think of that might have an impact. As an asexual person I haven't had sex for years. If I am subjected to rape it would not only be unwanted sex, but it would be sex for the first time after a very long time. For a sexual person, even though the act is horrifying, it is something they have a different frame of reference to fall back on later when trying to cope. They KNOW even though rape is terrible, sex itself isn't. I have no such frame of reference so to me it would be the actual sex that was terrible and might even change my view of it from disconnected to hateful.

I'm a sexual virgin. So does that mean my "aspect" makes the rape worse for me than for you, because you have at least had some sexual experience?

Wouldn't it be worse for me because I am sexual and want to have sex at some point?

I never said it wasn't fucking horrible so don't put words in my mouth. I said for someone who hadn't had sex, or had sex and didn't enjoy it, the process of recovery might be harder. If you are a virgin who hadn't had a pleasurable sexual experience yet, then yes that includes you too. The idea is that the victim hasn't experience the alternative to unwanted sex to know that the experience itself isn't supposed to be horrible and it became so because of the crime committed by the rapist.

Rape is Rape. To a sexual person, even with the frame reference you mention, it's still a horrible experience, and they might end up being triggered. Some people might even decide not to have sex ever again... going from liking an experience to hate it with all their heart.

Not all sexual people have sex, or have sex frequently, so the sex after a really long time bit is possible for sexual people too.

Additionally, while sexual people (who have previously had sex) may have previously enjoyed sex they may find it unbearable after their rape due to the association. Thus, the frame of reference you mentioned may not actually be useful for the purpose of recovery.

I think there was a discussion about if rape was worse for Sherlock as he is asexual (I don't watch it so not sure if thats canon to the show or not).

I'm expecting hate for this, but I think that of those who argued in the original discussion that it would be worse for him, some were possibly the kind of fangirls who like to have the worst possible things happen to their favourite character so he can be nursed better, so they wanted it to be worse for him and his asexuality gave them a reason for this to be so.

Don't get me wrong, I love h/c as much as the next fangirl, and I know that it was probably a minority, but I do think that some fans (who may not fully understand what asexuality is) were arguing from a make-our-character-a-woobie side of things if that makes sense, rather than a filly informed sexuality side. (note, I said some. Not all. Some. So you, yes you, the one who I've just antagonised and who is just about to write an angry reply about how you don't- I wasnt talking about you, I meant some other fangirls)

So I'm thinking possibly the prompter or the mods mentioned in this secret could be on that side of things.

But, that was a different conversation- I think rape is traumatic regardless. I think it depends on the individual entirely how they will be impacted by it.
And I really don't think any of us are qualified to argue one way or the other without either scientific backing (I've looked, theres no psych studies on this including asexuals) or personal experience.
