Oh no, I'm crushed that someone who condones lying, deceit, and taking advantage of good people is judging me.

...It's kind of flattering, come to think of it.

Seriously, though, are you just not hearing yourself? You're basically saying that it's okay to step on and use people who're trying to help you to achieve your goals. Since when is trampling over genuinely kind people ever okay?

And for someone who is so obviously "pro-choice", you're awfully against other people's choice to not approve of abortion. In fact, you pretty much said that it was okay to deceive those people because they wouldn't have donated anyway, as if they shouldn't have had a choice in the matter because they weren't on board with you and your ideals.

God. I can't even.

Better than being on the side that forces a woman to have a child she doesn't want.

I am against abortion. That said, I'm pro-choice. Always have been. The idea of abortion disturbs me, and using it as a form of birth-control disgusts me completely, but I've always understood that some people just don't share the same beliefs as me, and I respect that.

That said, I don't think it's okay to deceive people who are trying to help you. My stance on the life/choice debate doesn't matter. What matters is that the OP willingly lied to and took advantage of her friends, and that's what makes OP's decision wrong on so many levels. It's not the abortion that I'm fighting against, it's the means she chose to procure it.

What she did was wrong. Completely wrong. She used her friend's money, and the very least she could have done was be honest with them about where the money was going to.

People in this thread are fighting for pro-choice but that's not what this is about at all.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
You say the OP should have been honest about where the money was going, but if they were and then they didn't raise enough (not to mention the harassment I'm sure they'd receive - and hell people get scary on the internet and occasionally hunt down peoples home address) then where would they be?

You don't have forever to raise that money.

The real problem is that the OP lives somewhere where they don't have free abortions. Which means that people without the money to pay for abortions don't actually have the same ability to chose as those who do.

Things sucking doesn't justify out-right lying to people who care about the OP. She is a shitty person to take advantage of them.

She doesn't have to be 100% up-front about it, but she doesn't have to lie either.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
yes, yes it does. When women get harassed and doctors get murdered for providing abortions, lying to get one safely is totally justified.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not when no information has to be given. "I need money immediately for a personal problem" not lying nor opening herself to harassment.

Lying was not justified.

And that's sad, sure. Still doesn't justify deceiving your friends, or obtaining donations given under false pretenses.

Like I stated above, I get that the OP was desperate. She got herself into a cruddy situation and chose to lie to her friends to get money. It happens. But to say that what she did was "alright" for whatever reason is so wrong, and that's the end of it.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Stop saying "she got herself".

Jesus Christ you know absolutely nothing about how the OP became pregnant. It could have been rape, the birth control could have failed, you have no idea.

Stop saying "she got herself".

i didn't read it that way so maybe p didn't either, i think they just rephrased it wrong probably.....maybe like >what a mess youu got yourself into< does not always cast blame on the person but a figur of speech.....

but i agree with both of you.....

I doubt you'll find anyone anywhere who lists an abortion as a goal they want to achieve. An abortion is an emergency and probably a pretty desperate one if someone is reduced to pan-handling on the internet to fund it. I don't know where the OP lives but if this is what it took for her to get her abortion, it's not likely to be somewhere with easy access to a nearby, safe, low-cost facility. This looks to me like a desperate person in a desperate situation, doing what they had to do. If abortion was free of charge, free of judgement, safe and locally available to all women who want it, as it should be, this sort of subterfuge would be unnecessary. So, she lied to do something that in a just world she shouldn't have to lie about. Big fucking deal. Lesser of two evils.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, LJ is pretty damn liberal. She didn't have to lie about what she was doing on lj.

It's not even the panhandling, it's the deliberate lying. And no, I don't believe she "had" to. I believe it would not have been pleasant to come clean about this and it was easier to lie, but you know what? That's what makes the OP a shitty person - lying to her friends because it was easier.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, all the nasty little so-called pro-lifers leaving comments like "abort yourself" and calling the OP a bitch and wishing harm on her seem mighty liberal

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
OMG!

People reacting badly when the OP admitted to fraud? NO! Must be that LJ is secretly against abortions.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the anti-abortion comments are coming from anti-choicers

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
LJ is not THAT liberal. (And who says that's where they were asking for donations?)

And if she had announced on the internet that she needed money for an abortion and ended up being harassed to the point that people had found out her home address and posted it somewhere (which has happened for less)? Not being able to raise enough money would have been bad enough, but with the harassment on top of that? Fuck that.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Here is a way to raise money without disclosing anything that might get you harassed: "Urgent! I need money for a time sensitive, personal matter, that I unfortunately am not comfortable discussing on the internet. [For every $x amount I will y, if applicable.] This is very important to me and I need the money dearly. Please send it to email@paypal."

No lying, no harassing. It's not that hard.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
And that would have raised how much do you think?

And you know what? I get that. She was desperate. Whatever.

But that should be it. Not condoning the OP's behavior. Not applauding it. I wouldn't be so disgusted by this thread if people would quit treating the OP like she's some victim who had no choice in the matter. Fact is, she had a choice. She chose to deceive her friends, and I'm against that. I don't care what your reasons are, you don't do that to people, especially not good people. And this "oh well, but if the world were different..." approach is such utter bull.

Because the world is shitty that justifies amoral behavior? Because the world is shitty you should step on the few genuinely considerate people in it? Can you imagine the kind of world we'd live in if everyone were to think that way?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
There is a war on abortion rights and some pro-life (oh irony!) elements are quite willing to murder people on the back of it. The OP can do whatever it takes to get her abortion in safety and anonymity. What if her IRL identity was known to people on her flist? What if her location was known? Are those reasons good enough? Get your priorities straight, seriously.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
The OP was a victim. She was in a desperate enough situation to consider and execute panhandling on the internet. She likely didn't confess it was for an abortion because of the polarizing reaction it elicits (just look at this thread as evidence of that; people telling the OP to abort herself). Sure, the OP is cowardly and morally abject, but she is pitiable, and while your sense of justice is commendable, I suggest you develop a similar sense of mercy if you're going to parade around as a paragon of morality.

That you can dismiss desperation as a valid reason so easily is inexplicable to me.

Didn't you like, just turn eighteen or nineteen or something? Because I seem to remember a comment of yours about that. And, if so, not to say your views aren't valid because of your age, but I think your views are invalid because you're a teenager.

I mean, I agreed with some of your comments on this secret, but you've gotten progressively more moralizing about this, and honestly, your assumption of choice in this matter is bullshit.

I am, in fact, saying your views are invalid because you don't have the life experience to back them up. The not to say your views aren't valid because of your age bit was sarcasm.

Okay, I think amethyst_rei is a judgemental jerk, but I doubt it's her age that has anything to do with it. People of all ages can be super judgemental and lacking in empathy.

I'm judging you too... in a positive way.
