lol right. NEWSFLASH: Misogyny isn't just about "hating women." You can say you fucking love women all day long and still be a disgusting misogynist (and Dean does a lot of it!).

Dean condescends to women, pervs on them, leers at them, objectifies them, calls them "honey" and "sweetheart" like an asshole when he doesn't even know them, treats them like shit that's there for his entertainment, and on and on. He treats them as lesser and less skilled automatically. A group of people who solicit sex from strangers for the purposes of breeding an army of children who are trained to go out and kill their own fathers, who are unaware of their existance. I think "crazy bitch" applies. Sam shot a creature who was going to kill his brother. That's the entire basis of the show. You can't throw "three-day-old" in there and expect it to mean anything in context, when the three-day-old was a teenager who could talk and had knife skills.

I abhor double standards. Most of the people who label Dean as a misogynist wouldn't give a crap if he were a woman doing the same thing.

It's great that women are growing more confident in expressing their desires and attraction towards the opposite sex, but it's so stupid that when men do so now they're told they're misogynistic and sexist.

As I said in another comment, which you apparently did not care to read, I believe that it is perfectly alright to enjoy and watch problematic media, BUT the important part is to recognize and act/speak against the problematic content (read: DON'T IGNORE IT AND MAKE EXCUSES FOR IT). I have made extensive comments, essays, etc. on the sexism in Sherlock and how and why it is sexist / how and why that's a bad thing. (I don't really consider Saiyuki to be very sexist -- certainly not to the point of Supernatural -- but it does have a lack of female characters who aren't one-shots. Then again, it has.. a lack of characters, period, who aren't one-shots due to the nature of the show. Also, I got into the show and manga when I was about fourteen, so yeah.)

(ETA: Do you really think accusing me of being a slash writer is going to what, bring me to my knees and make me beg forgiveness for being a ~bad feminist or something? Yeah, I write slash. I officially stopped watching Supernatural after "The Slice Girls." The sexism in that episode is the worst I have EVER seen in the show (which is really saying something) and it literally made me ill. I had pretty much given up on it long before then, but continued to watch the odd episode and keep up on summaries of what I didn't see. I saw "The Slice Girls" because I fucking love Amazons. Yeah. Went well for me.

Also, I don't think it's necessarily "abhorrent." I've never said people should never watch anything involving misogyny ever. It would be impossible, there'd be nothing to watch. BUT it is REALLY important to acknowledge the issues in media and argue/lobby against -isms in media to the creators. Supernatural fandom, unfortunately, is especially adept at supporting -isms in the show and defending them, which is what really grosses me out.

I mean, just imagine if the fandom had written in and petitioned in SUPPORT of Jo instead of begging them to kill her off because she ~dared to look at Dean Winchester and like what she saw. Hell, imagine the same for any of the female characters in the show. Imagine if someone wrote in and asked them to maybe stop throwing around sexist slurs all the time -- more people would be comfortable watching the show, and that's good, right? It goes on. The show would be better, the fandom would be better, if the sexism was out of it. But that'll never happen because of people like the ones in this thread who defend and make excuses for sexism and/or play willfully ignorant about it. So the show will keep being sexist, the fandom will keep being sexist, and basically it'll keep driving people off.
