Liz is hawt. Seriously I think she looks like Eowyn from LotR. Not the movie, that's how I imagined her when I read the books.

I don't really think it's insulting to say someone looks like a man. Or mannish. Or masculine. It's just an observation. Of course, if the person people are talking about comes out and says that they feel insulted by it then that's different. But why does everyone assume when people make a comment about her masculine features that it's an insult? I think she's very masculine and pretty.

Why would she need to change her appearance for someone to think she's pretty enough?

Maybe, like me, she just really hates wearing make up?

[identity profile] cysfics.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Liz is gorgeous and amazing, and I wish people would stop giving her shit about her appearance.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-05 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny how people forget this is what most women look like without makeup on (neither ugly nor stunning, just average and without emphasized eyes/lips/etc.).

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect it's the lack of styling/makeup that most people feel makes her ugly/mannish.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-05 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who that is, but at least on this picture she really looks very masculine (her face, not her body, obviously). If I only saw a picture of her face, I'd be sure that's a man.

For me, it was less her looks and more her voice. I wouldn't say it's masculine, but it's one of those voices where I think it's a bit ambiguous.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't actually care for her at all. But it bugs me more that her looks are relevant. Plenty of the guy reviewers on the site aren't exactly pretty themselves, but no one really makes fun of that. But for the ladies, the first hit is always regarding appearance.

She is who she is. I dunno, frankly when I hear that "You could be really cute if you made the effort/put on make-up/wore girly clothes" I just grit my teeth. People should wear what they're comfortable wearing, not what will make them more acceptably attractive to random people.

[identity profile] alexanonymous.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
People shouldn't bag on her for that. That's bullshit.
1. She looks average.
2. It's not her job to be pretty--it's COMPLETELY irrelevant.
3. Most of the men on that site look like total ass. Greasy hair, wrinkled clothes, and ugly in general. But of course no one mentions that, because they're men.

Sexism on the internet, big surprise.

I don't give two shits about how she looks; I like her videos, her sense of humor, and her personality. And she makes Linkara happy. But I think she looks nice, anyway.

I feel for her, I hate makeup and never wear it and when you have pale skin/hair/eyes like she does, you do tend to look washed out. And that's how she looks, washed out. Normal. Not ugly. It sucks that people say that about her.
And because it's not being anonymous without one bitchy comment: Just washing/parting her hair would make a world of difference in her perceived attractiveness.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, fuck that. Liz is fine how she is.

[identity profile] lovegonnadrown.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
oh nooooooo, a woman is happy with the way she looks and doesn't want to waste her time and energy trying to fulfill a bullshit beauty ideal that society dumps on us every day of our lives. what a fucking travesty. clearly this is her problem, and not the problem of the disgusting, inherently misogynist nerd culture that she participates in. good on you OP for putting the burden on HER instead of, I dunno, trying to counter the fuckers saying stupid shit in the first place!

[identity profile] drunken-clowns.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
She just looks like someone who does what she does and doesn't really worry about beauty.

I love makeup myself, but I think that's awesome.

[identity profile] eyepatchmcgee.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
my real question is, why does it matter?
The answer I always get is cause society says it does, or people judge others by apperance good or bad. But honestly, she's a fun reviewer, and even if she wasn't she's some stranger who has no impact on someones life besides choosing to click on her videos, and people feel the need to insult her. Why is being pretty SO important, society is stupid. There is more to being a woman than appearing loverly, and it's always the first thing people notice or ask about. If a woman wins a nobel prize, or murders 28 people the first question is always "is she hot?"

SHES COOL. and thats what I like about her.

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2012-05-06 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
She's not my type - but I do feel it's bullshit that it's brought up so much. Most of the guys on that website aren't conventionally attractive either. But of course, double standards everywhere hurrrr.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't wear make-up but I still look like a woman without it. She has a very manly face and voice. That doesn't really matter when it comes to her being entertaining or not, but it's a fact. My friend had me watch a video and guess if it was a he or she, and I honestly couldn't answer -- and I watch a ton of anime so I thought I was good at gender distinguishing, lol.

I don't know who she is, but I find her very pretty in that pic. I imagine it's one of those situations where there's absolutely no reason to focus on her appearance and judge her, yet people do it anyway. And that always sucks.

I don't watch any of the stuff on this site but until a few months ago, having only seen pictures of this woman, I honest to god thought she was either a transwoman or a character played by one of the guys on the site.

Wouldn't be okay to bag on her for it though even if it was true. That said, I'm still not sure who she is or what she does...

Liz is perfect the way she is. People get waaaaay too hung up on commenting on how others look or saying things like "With makeup or a new hairstyle she could be pretty!" as a way to "defend" said person's looks. If you want to defend her, don't give her backhanded compliments. Just saying...

(Anonymous) 2012-05-06 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I am not being an ass here, just genuinely curious as I've no idea who she is and had to google her, but is it a definite that she isn't a biological male? I agree that she's about average but her features are masculine (the heavier brow, the cheekbones and jawline) and it just makes me curious. So for those who know more, and don't mind, can anyone expound a bit further?

It's miserable that people can't find better words to express their displeasure. Like "I personally don't care for angular features/square jaws/statuesque builds".

As for the "mannish" comments, sounds like people who have a limited vocabulary. I don't mean that in a character judgement way- I mean that to say "she's mannish" sounds like they don't know how to properly think about and describe certain features.

*Edit* I just looked up IronLiz because of this secret. Thank you. I think I'm going to like her a lot. Love TableTop RPG.
