Wow. Just... wow. I'm mostly amazed at how she was allowed to continue speading such hateful nonsense, though. In the Youtube comments for this vid someone has pointed out that the Journal Star (the local newspaper for the Lincoln area; this vid was filmed at a Lincoln Nebraska City Council hearing) published an article pronouncing her schizophrenic. Can anyone with decent knowledge of schizophrenia attest to whether that condition would cause someone to speak in such a confused manner?

I had occasion to read the transcripts of several city council meetings from another city, and apparently you can get on the agenda and say what you want (not matter how bizarre) for your allotted time. I think some people are probably "career speakers" at this kind of events in the same way that some people make the same kinds of comments about specific "issues" in the comments of online news posts.

And horrific, not because of the things she said, but because she's certifiably schizophrenic, and there's nothing her family can do to get her committed because she hasn't "harmed" anybody.

This is a problem in our country - both the homophobia, but also the willingness to dismiss mental issues when they cause things like this.
