Tips on getting rid of flies inside the house? I thought about flypaper/flytraps but those are just gross

I throw out garbage/keep the kitchen clean every day, the house is immaculately clean in general, but I guess they keep flying in any time someone opens a door or a window (and I live in a hot climate so I guess insects are drawn to the inside in summer in general)

I'm just so sick of seeing them everywhere AUGH

All I can suggest is fly paper... We used to have a fly problem, and it got so I could smack them out of the air with my hand...
If you had fruit flies, I could help you with that!

Fruit flies or house flies?

If fruit flies, get a glass with a wide brim, fill it partially with water and a sweet juice and add one or two drops of dishwashing soap to it. Let sit for a few days. The flies will be attracted to the rotting juice and land to drink but the drop of soap will destroy the surface tension of the liquid and they'll drown.

Fly paper worked okay for us. Also, get one of those electric tennis rackets (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Extra-Large-Volts-Seasons-Zapper/dp/B003PC3U20/ref=pd_sim_lg_3). They only do so much damage, but it's incredibly cathartic. Nothing like going in swinging against those fuckers and seeing them drop like...well, you know.

I had to get creative because we have too many pets for fly spray/sticky paper.

- Lavender incenses drives them out of room/smoky vicinity. Not so good if you are asthmatic/don't like lavander.
- Fresh mint in a vase - cleared them out of the kitchen STAT - presumably lavender from a bush can do this too?
(or try moist mint or lavender tea bags if neither of these is your thing? And place at all the windows? or lavender/mint candles? I say those two because they've worked for me.)

Flypaper, and maybe an insect screen for windows you leave open often?

Also, if you're having issues with fruit flies, a great way to get rid of them would be to put a bit of apple cider vinegar mixed with a bit of soap (I use dish detergent) into a large plastic cup (make sure the mix doesn't splatter anywhere above the half-mark on the cup). Let it sit where the flies are primarily hovering and they'll be drawn to it like woah. A good many of them will end up drowning in the vinegar because of the soap. You can trap the ones that just crawl/sit on the inside walls of a cup with a heavy flat object that you place on top of it (I generally use a thick hardcover book). Take the trapped flies outside and let them go or something (you may or may not want to have a can of bug spray at hand).

You can also use a banana for the trap. Also, a small/medium bottle works just as well, if not better.

Good luck. I freaking hate flies. This year my biggest issue seems to be mosquitoes despite me having a screen. I'm walking outside looking like I have chicken pox with all these bites, I swear.
