I'm on the fence. I have no sympathy for people whose stories got pulled for blatant rules violations, like posting explicit porn, because the site's rules have always been there, and they ask you to re-read them all the time before you can post a story. If someone didn't read them or ignored them on purpose, it's their own fault.

On the other hand, I have seen accounts of stories being reported for seemingly no good reason. Their ratings guide is also pretty vague, and it's difficult to tell what's too explicit for the M rating.

That worries me, a bunch. I don't post explicit smut to the pit, because that's just stupid - but I have posted fic that do have non-explicit sex scenes in them. The double-edged sword of vague wording is that you don't know exactly where you stand until the hammer falls on you.

I know. I've been using the site since 2001. I meant that the no porn policy has been there for a really long time, but I should have been clearer.

Me three. I got a one-week ban for posting porn there not long after they deleted the NC-17 category, and I've not done it again since. I've directed people who want to read my porn to get in touch with me elsewhere instead.

The thing I most remember about the NC-17 purge was that they used the anniversary of 9-11 to hide behind whilst they did it.

But I agree, I also feel old because I was around when it happened.

That was the really, really horrible part.

I'd been on the fence about signing up for a ff.net account (I mostly only posted on fandom-specific archives and groups back then), and that was what made me decide NEVER. So I never did. I still don't think I'm missing much.
