Good looking, rich, powerful, genius, superhero. I can see a lot of reasons OP might want to be him.

hmm you know that's just a part of him.

Tony Stark hates himself, he is an alcoholic,tried to kill himself with alcohol(even tho he pulled himself later). he is depressed all the time. he is a fucked up character that's why I love him and find him interesting but I'd never want to be him

Yeah but you don't know about OP's life. I personally would trade a lot to have the type of life Tony Stark has. Hell, I've already got the suicidal tendencies, self hate, alcoholism, and depression. Sure would be nice to have the money, job, friends, looks, power, etc to go along with it.

I thought they did an excellent job of showing Tony as a character with depth. A lot of that came from the subtle moments that RDJ put in. Just small facial expressions during key scenes (like that expression when Bruce admitted to having attempted suicide before).

Yes! I noticed this when I was watching Avengers too. When Steve is basically telling Tony he is worthless, and questioning what he is without the suit, Tony replies with a quip (Billionare, genius, etc. -I can't remember the exact quotes), but RDJ made Tony look so hurt and self loathing in contrast with the snarkiness of the line. It was great.

Oh gosh, yes, that moment. ALL THE FEELS. Because really, Captain freaking America, the hero-of-heroes, the guy his father never shut up about, just flayed open all of Tony's own personal doubts and demons with just a few sentences, and RDJ lets you see that without making it obvious. It's a funny line, until you remember/realize that Tony really does see himself as worthless without the suit.

There were a lot of great moments like that. Another one I love is when he says, "We are not soldiers!" And he says it like he's angry, but just the look on his face is nothing but fear and...I don't even know. I just look his delivery on that line.

Oh hell yes. And how, when he was calling Coulson stupid for trying to take on Loki, it didn't seem mean because you could tell from his face and voice how devastated he really was. And the entire conversation with Loki in the tower where he's a mixture of terrified and furious but is acting totally casual and smug about the whole thing. I want to kiss whoever it was who cast RDJ in that role.

This. At least his issues get to be meaningful and impact other people's lives, people who value and care about him.

I'd guess OP is just talking about movie!verse Tony, who aside from a justified nutty Iron Man 2 seems a little more well-balanced than comicbook!Tony-- especially in Avengers.
