Also I saw Cap America on DVD not too long ago and definitely liked what I saw. I kind of just need to just bite the bullet and go even if I've only seen parts of Thor on TV and none of Iron Man 2/Hulk.
They'll probably be just generally fun movies to watch and I'm glad to hear MIB3 is apparently much better than MIB2. (Not that that's hard....)
Sometimes personal tastes are right there with the main crowd, sometimes they're against it and it's perfectly fine- so anyone who gives you a lot of grief for either going with/against 'the crowd' when it comes to movie preference when you honestly just feel that way should be laughed at.

I went to Avengers without seeing any of the lead-in movies and enjoyed myself immensely. They provide good character background and such, but they aren't essential.
