I liked them both. MIB III still wasn't right up there with the original but personally I felt it made up for the second film. Also don't care if it was obvious, the end made me tear up. For me it felt like I had some closure for a much loved film from my later childhood.

I wouldn't make fun of you OP. I prefer The Avengers but we don't want the same things from films, right?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
agreed.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that last sentence was so rational and level-headed I had to read it twice to make sure I hadn't missed something.

I'm not even kidding a little.

I honestly don't know why anyone would make fun of you for this kind of opinion.

Both were good, and that's nothing to sneer at. (IMO Avengers was better, but who cares? I'm sure not everyone shares my opinion about the two movies.)

I've yet to see either but definitely plan to, like many people here MIB1 is big in my nostalgia.

Also I saw Cap America on DVD not too long ago and definitely liked what I saw. I kind of just need to just bite the bullet and go even if I've only seen parts of Thor on TV and none of Iron Man 2/Hulk.

They'll probably be just generally fun movies to watch and I'm glad to hear MIB3 is apparently much better than MIB2. (Not that that's hard....)

Sometimes personal tastes are right there with the main crowd, sometimes they're against it and it's perfectly fine- so anyone who gives you a lot of grief for either going with/against 'the crowd' when it comes to movie preference when you honestly just feel that way should be laughed at.

I think Avengers is probably considered really good because it rose above the action hero fatigue that was going on and has a much wider fanbase, lbr. If they make fun of you because you liked MIB3 more, which you can say without making it about the Avengers, then they're kinda shitty friends. Say it's the nostalgia factor or something.

[personal profile] lady_tagada 2012-06-02 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer MIB3 too, though I do like Avengers very much. And since it's all a matter of taste, I honestly don't see why anybody would mock you for it.

Your friends must be real doucebags then and you should feel proud to be friends with them.

THOR IS DEFINITELY THE BEST! :D

On the one hand, I haven't seen MIBIII yet, so I can't speak to that part. On the other, I agree with you about Thor being better than Avengers, but that's almost completely a (Branagh + JMS) > Whedon thing for me. I don't dislike Whedon (or the Avengers) at all - I just liked the other film more, and I think it had better characterization.

[personal profile] penoftruthiness 2012-06-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked both MIB3 and The Avengers so I don't see why anyone would be really upset at you for that? They're both really fun.

I definitely disagree with you about Thor, though.

(Also, sidenote, I somehow missed every pop culture thing about MIB EVER, so I assumed it was some kind of spy thing with a lot of boring men in suits, so I was all "Bwuh, aliens?!" when I actually went to see it)

To be fair

I thought MIB III was tripe, tbqh. Yes, I'm an Avengerstan, but I'm not butthurt about MIB taking over the #1 spot-- I expected it to happen. I'm butthurt because I spent like $50 taking my mom, and she was SO excited because she loves the franchise, and it was just a plain bad movie :\

Really? I liked both movies a lot, and while I'm more fannish about the Avengers, I don't think MIB3 was bad at all. I had no idea it was "supposed" to be. Guess I completely missed THAT part of the internet.

I just think you have bad taste. But you will probably think I have bad taste too, which I do. Whatever. No harm or matter. About the most negative thing I ever say to someone with, imo, bad taste is that I can never trust their recs. And even that's said in jest.

Unless your friends are actually being brats or weirdly defensive about it, or your easily embarrassed, what's wrong with unashamedly admitting you like those movies?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah, you didn't like something you're friends did and now you're afraid they're going to make fun of you if you tell them, either stop being melodramatic or get some new friends.

Now can we talk about the real issue with this secret, what the fuck is Daredevil doing in that poster, why would you even put him in there?

Nothing wrong with having an unpopular opinion. Personally, I loved Avengers. Thor was my favorite of the pre-Avengers movies, but I liked Avengers better.

I really need to go see MIBIII. And I still haven't seen Dark Shadows. And I want to see Snow White. I really need more hours in my day right now.

I didn't know MIBIII was out? OR maybe i knew and forgot....
HRM.
Anyway - they're utterly different movies, who cares if you didn't like the one but like the other? Like what you like, OP - there's no shame in it.

I have yet to see MIB3, but I'm 90% sure I'm gonna come out of it thinking it was as good or better than The Avengers, just because of my sheer love for the MIB universe. And I love The Avengers. I've seen it three times. I enjoy it, but IDG why people seem to be ragging on MIB3. It won't be ~quality~ cinema, but then again, neither is The Avengers.

Are you me, OP? I couldn't agree more. Especially about Thor. So many people I know bash it, and it's probably my favorite of all the pre-Avengers flicks.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
They'll make fun of you if you make puns like that.

MIB3 would definitely be the one I'd buy a dvd of, at least. I liked both, but probably MIB3 more for nostalgia reasons.

I feel like MIB3 had a much better story and character development, while the Avengers had the really amazing special effects and visuals (from art direction to storyboarding/camerawork and choreography).

The avengers didn't make me cry, bro. MIB3, however.....

I loved both of them, but outside my new found love for Bruce/Tony and my new found old love of Tony/Pepper, I ended up enjoying MIB3 10 times more.

THAT ENDING!!!

Also, young!K~!!!!
