I think part of it is that LJ/DW(since the crowd is the same) are older, so you have a lot of people who started using the site in their teens and have just stuck with it. Whereas Tumblr is the new fangled thing that all the kids these days are flocking to.

That being said, it's also whoever is on your circles. My Tumblr circles are all 20's and up.
