It only goes up to vol 31. After that I'm at a blank.
Unfortunately I don't know where to get the Black/White runs. :/
Reposting for HTML fail.
Not harping on Special, of course. It's just far, far easier to find material for it because of how much the fandom focuses on it. For example, if you're looking for the BW arc, try this place out. It's one of several major manga readers out there, much akin to Mangafox, but unlike Mangafox, it contains essentially a complete collection of the series (or as complete as has been scanlated so far).
In contrast, despite actually having been translated completely, Electric Tale only has the first two chapters (not volumes) available on that site. Other manga series (of which there are plenty) don't fare that much better. Good luck if you're a fan of Zenshou or Golden Boys, for example.
Sorry if that sounded biting. It's just that I think Special is great and all, but it's just frustratingly difficult to find anything but Special.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 11:12 am (UTC)(link)no problem! For some reason I thought they were the same series under different names??? So I'm doubly excited to find out THERE'S ANOTHER MANGA I CAN READ.
But you seem to know more about the pokemon mangas than I do. My knowledge is spotty at best and Special the only one I can recall off the top of my head because I enjoyed the Ruby version so.

Because he says "fabulous"?
Is Jessie a lesbian because she is aggressive and also cross-dresses?

Seeing him as gay? Super! Writing him as gay? Amazing, we need more of that.
But it's not a fact.

For me, James as a gay man was a very important part of my childhood. I believe that he was the one who started a lot of fans (especially fangirls) ages seven to twelve on the road to really loving gay men and slashing. There was nobody to ship him with, so it wasn’t really lust factor. We just loved him and he happened to be gay.
You have to understand, this was back in 1998 and 1999, before GLBT stuff was on TV in a positive way, especially in the sight of a 6th grader who grew up with literally seven TV channels (2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 which was PBS). This was when sitcoms still played up gay for only big laughs. Will and Grace had just started its first season.
We youngsters were not only underexposed to gays, some of us were hearing about it with a good amount of disdain. Ten year old me knew absolutely nothing about gay men until James came along and prompted me to ignore what some of the adults in my life were saying and actually read about what “homosexuality” was. Before I read this one book (which I had to sneak into my house to read, by the way), I didn’t know that gay men didn’t want to be women. I didn’t know that it was just as simple as one person loving another. Laugh if you want to, but it's easy to forget how much information younger people of today have at their disposal to learn about things that aren’t immediately in their life.
So yeah, ship how you want to ship, I guess, but I dislike that ship on personal nostalgic principle. It takes away a very important part of my life.
