Uh. Is this a Troll? I mean, how can you not see the canon crush on Sokka? It was sort of obvious as hell. There were multiple times he made her blush, a few scenes where she was obviously jealous of Suki, and the one where Suki saved her instead of Sokka and she didn't realize it.

You don't have to ship her with Sokka, and it's pretty obvious at this point that Tokka was never canon as a mutual relationship, but I feel like you have to blind not to see that Toph->Sokka was canon for at least the length of the 2nd and 3rd seasons of A:TLA.

I was wondering this. I haven't seen all of A:TLA so I can't really talk, but I was watching a couple of episodes with my sister and Toph having a crush on Sokka felt pretty obvious...

This. It wasn't horribly important to the story, so no one bought it up in any detail, but it was there.

I ... never noticed any of those hints while I was watching it, but now that you mention it, I remember her really liking Sokka's jokes and cheering him up when he felt useless.

Yes, very much this. I keep seeing people like the OP insisting that Toph had no canonic romantic interests in AtLA, and yet she had a pretty obvious (unreciprocated) crush on Sokka.

This. I'm confused, it IS cannon she had a crush on Sokka - OP's secret is trying to ignore that. It wasn't subtle...? Just a small crush.

No really OP, tell me what was going on with Sokka. I want to read more nuttertext.

But... she kissed Suki thinking that it was Sokka at one time, and had a bunch of other little cues to show that she had a crush on him. Yeah, she might not have been in ~love~ love, but there still was an attraction.

That and Lin's presence kind of signals (unless she was adopted or earthbended into existence) that Toph eventually got down and dirty with someone.

You have to admit that Lin being earthbended into existence would be pretty sweet.

I see where you're coming from. A:TLA tended to be about as subtle as a sledgehammer when it came to crushes/romance, but maybe that was because they already knew the end game. Having Toph have a crush on someone they knew she wouldn't end up with, and then making the crush as obvious as all the others...seems kind of mean to me. Especially in a kid's show.

So where does that leave Sokka and Yue? The two of them sure as hell wanted to be together and yet they definitely weren't going to be. Sorry, but the logic of "Toph couldn't have had any canon love interest because all canon ATLA loves get requited" would be pretty feeble even if we didn't have direct counter-evidence.

What the hell? You can be friends with someone and still have a crush on them. I've had crushes on friends (that I got over). Why can't friends just be friends? They can; but there can be other feelings present as well.

Was this inspired by that secret before the move where I'd gotten mixed-up and thought her crush was on Zuko? I already explained there that I don't ship in that fandom at all, I just want to know what she was into as an adult. Untwist your knickers.

Uh, she had a crush on Sokka. That was pretty obvious and unambiguous. Doesn't mean anything has to come out of it, but it was there.

I'm more bewildered by the people who say she had a crush on Zuko. She did hug his arm that one time, but I felt like they were just buddies.

Compared to her crush on Sokka, the Zuko thing was way more ambiguous. The only reason I would think that "Toph --> Zuko" would be a thing was how excited she got to potentially have a fun field trip with him like the other guys got to. I can see how that could be read as a young girl having a bit of a crush (maybe less on Zuko himself, and more as him as the mysterious new guy, or something like that.)

Regardless, I agree with you about the crushes -- it really doesn't have to mean anything, especially at Toph's age. Hell, I had a huge crush on a guy a while back, and I was recently a happy, supportive bridesmaid in his wedding. Crushes rise and fall like the wind.

Yeah, the impression I got was that she wasn't crushing on Zuko so much as jealous of everyone else getting a Significant Moment and thought it should be her turn.

This...seems extreme. I am the world's biggest advocate of the validity & importance of non-romantic character friendships, but come on, it's a matter of opinion.
