So long as you're not hating on anyone who does it, who actually cares? It's not homophobic when you still ship same-sex, it's just that m/m isn't your cup of tea

if only mainstream media offered more good female characters in lead roles there would be more f/f ships

Homestuck has VERY strong female leads -- but of course m/m is still overdone there. So I find that last bit hard to believe.

Het and femmslash are popular in homestuck though, slashers are just more efficient with making fanworks.

Is it? I'm part of the Homestuck fandom and I actually see equal parts m/m, m/f and f/f on my tumblr dashboard...

Agreeing with your comment about the good characters who happen to be female though. Homestuck has actually been the best so far as I've seen in terms of writing female characters!

Maybe it's just where I hang out in fandom but slash/het/femmeslash are still pretty equal in parts.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen, it seems that shows with lots of strong female characters, no matter how good the characters and show are as a whole, will never have as large a fanbase when it comes to "fannish" stuff as if those same characters were males. There are exceptions, of course, but could you imagine Sherlock or Supernatural as the mega-fandoms they are now if the main characters were women?

I was thinking, even though I haven't seen much Nikita yet, it seems to be a very good show! Comparative to White Collar or I don't know, a couple of major-but-not-that-popular shows in terms of quality/writing. It's sad, because the fandom is apparently very small from what I've seen, even though the quality of the show is still very decent.

At least Homestuck is very popular, what with its cast being fully equal in terms of gender. Still yet to see a very popular show featuring an all-female cast (...Wait, does My Little Pony: FiM count?)

There's shitloads of all-female cast if you watch anime. K-on, Azumanga, Simoun, Strawberry panic, Sailor moon..? Most moe fandoms.
