Yeah, I've always loved how people get accused of being homophobic for wanting more femslash ='|. Because clearly anyone who wants femslash is an icky straight guy!!1

...Nevermind that you're probably a straight girl if you ship m/m [with exceptions of course but the majority of the m/m fanbase is female and straight], and therefore no better.

....I also love how said straight girls cry about how "homophobic" it is how much ecchi anime exists while operating under the assumption that only straight guys watch it. Who's homophobic now? Proooobably the straight yaoi fangirl that is convinced that women like me who like quite a bit of ecchi because I'm attracted to women don't actually exist.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This is exactly why I hate straight girls.
nachtmusik: (wait what)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's not like all straight girls act like that. I'm fine with straight girls who aren't homophobic and ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I though yaoi fangirls were mostly lesbians. Does not compute.

...Not...really? It's usually straight girls who are all "I like yaoi because I like dudes so of course two dudes is hotter than one! Also no need to look at women!" Which is fine, really, but once they start trying to claim their choice in porn makes them a gay rights activist...no.

Yaoi fangirls who are lesbians do exist, but they're not a majority.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you know they aren't actual gay activists though? You can be both.

I guess so, but the "yaoi fangirls" I've met we're mostly bisexual or lesbians so I found it odd.

The ones who are aren't a problem. It's pretty easy to tell them apart, though. What I'm talking about are the type who say things like "I care about gay people because yaoi is hot!"

But yeah no it's definitely possible to be both and I'm not saying it isn't. That'd make no sense, as I like my share of m/m ships and am bisexual myself. And there are fans of yaoi and such that are male, even, though they're definitely far from a majority.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
In my fandom we're the majority. It's a rare pairing (most of the fandom is het), but seriously, at least 85% identify as lesbian.
nachtmusik: (Default)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-03 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really interesting and I can't say I've ever heard of something like that. I'm talking about the overall majority of m/m shippers in fandom period, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Somebody took a survey and the majority were bi/pan.

Didn't seem to be the most inclusive with different kinds of fandoms, but it's definitely believable to me, at least on average. And I wouldn't say it's majority lesbian, but there is a significant percentage of lesbian slashers.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What survey? I can't imagine what kind of survey would be able to encompass slash fandom that accurately. It's rather difficult to get a random sample of all the slashers.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine watching ecchi/hentai as a woman, but that's because I find the vast majority of it incredibly sexist.
nachtmusik: (sex is awesome)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-03 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had pretty good luck in finding ones that keep that element to enough of a minimum that I can look past it, myself, but I know what you mean.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
People don't cry "homophobia" when it comes to ecchi anime, they cry "sexist" and "misogyny".
nachtmusik: (pocky game [Kyoko/Sayaka])

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-03 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, I've seen plenty of complaints that it's "homophobic" how much ecchi anime is made as opposed to BL, and how much of the former gets licensed as opposed to the latter. Here's an example in this week's Answerman.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-03 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen that a lot. I see people call ecchi/yaoi homophobic because they fetishize lesbian/gay pairings but not of that. Also, generally people find ecchi sexist and misogynistic as they should be since it is..Not even going to talk about Hentai.
nachtmusik: (Doktorspiele)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
...You know, I can't even say I agree that ecchi/fanservise/etc even is inherently sexist or misogynistic. Sure, some titles within the genre are, but the entire genre?

But then, I disagree with the notion that imagery of women in revealing clothing is inherently sexist, so.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

It's not the nudity in hentai/ecchi that bothers me, it's the way women tend to behave in anime porn. Specifically, thetrope of the quivering, whimpering, super-passive girl who is usually either mortified by sex, looks embarrassed or pained to be having it, or is just outright raped.
nachtmusik: (biergarten)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2012-06-04 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, now that I agree with entirely. That shit disturbs the fuck out of me and it's why I tend to avoid most hentai. Ecchi doesn't usually have too much of that, though. Sure there will be the moemoe pure girl who doesn't like thinking about "dirty" things in some of these shows, but in series that aren't outright porn, we don't have to see her quivering in fear while having sex. I still dislike that archetype even then, though, and prefer my ecchi to not have that in it, but at least I can assume she's not going to have sex before her attitude changes.

In the context of hentai specifically, though, you have my complete agreement. That shit's gross.
