I think a lot of people are unhappy with their hair. Especially compared to beautiful animated hair.

FWIW, I have long straight hair and I can't run my fingers through it without getting tangled either. :(

Me too and me either. *Grin*

Also, shorter hair is probably less likely to get caught in doors or try and strangle you in your sleep. :D Mine is down to my hips and I pretty much keep mine in a braid for always unless I'm about to or just washed it, because while I love the look and feel of it down, it gets caught in everything. XD Purse strap, seatbelt winder, car doors/windows, even around my own damned arms...

It's fun and looks awesome but the number of times my hair has almost killed me... XD

HA! This. Leaning *way* into the middle of the car on windy days so I can shut the door/window without catching my hair in it. And when I let it get down to my butt, then you get loose hair in, uh...intimate places.

Not fun.

Not to mention that first moment you notice your hair is now long enough to sit on! Cool! And... you're on the toilet. Um...

And just try to pick anything up off the floor (let alone anything messy, or in a bathtub) when your hair is longer than your arm. XD

On the plus side, on cold days, it's long enough for me to wrap around my neck and tuck it back into itself, so I have a built-in scarf. So there's that. XD

But yeah, there's a reason I keep it in a braid most of the time, despite how much I love having it down, ha ha ha.

Mine's only about mid-rib length right now, but putting in a braid/pony/up with sticks only works for a few hours. Then i have a raging headache.

And yes - leaning down to scoop the litter box *requires* hair being tied back first. As does scrubbing the toilet and/or bathtub.

Fun times!

I have a toothed clip of a decent size I got at the dollar store. It's too small to actually grab all my hair up at the back, as it's probably intended to, but if I grab the middle of my braid and twist it all into a loop and pull it up onto the top of my head, I can use that clip horizontally to hold the topmost end of the loop to the top of my head. Yeah, it looks ridiculous and I'd never leave the house like that, lol, but it does keep it out of the way while I'm doing something messy. *Grin*

Of course, just dropping it down inside the back of my shirt is usually an option, too, although if I'm doing something gross I'll clip it instead, just in case.

I can never make those stay in my hair. Ten minutes, they're sliding out. Eh. I've found sticks to be the way to go when i want my hair up and away and out of my face for hours.

I found a leather gadget a while ago that's an open oval with holes for a stick at either narrow end. I could braid my hair from the nape, then flip it up against my head, tuck the loose end behind the thick part, straddle the whole sandwich with the leather, and lever the stick perpendicular under it. It was great until the cheapass plastic stick broke, and I haven't yet found a replacement that doesn't threaten to poke people in the eye. Plus I haven't had my hair cut in way too long, so it's now butt-length and would have to be folded an extra time unless I want to look like a deformed unicorn, which would make it too thick to hold. But that clip-thing never gave me headaches the way plain sticks do.

Dude - chopsticks! They're ever so pretty and cheap - at least, they are at our local Oriental Food Market.

Or a dowel rod of the right size. The small ones you can 'sharpen' in a pencil sharpener and smooth with a little sandpaper and - voila!

I had one of those leather things when i was a kid - funny how they're popular again.

I've tried chopsticks, dedicated hair sticks, pencils, dowels...none of it works like the original plastic stick. I think the plastic must have had just enough give to make it hold perfectly. I should look for a plastic chopstick maybe, but they're usually square.
