Shampooing doesn't have to be that much heck.

I don't get this western idea that long hair has to be always down. People from cultures that favor long hair often also have a tradition of keeping it up, braided or otherwise restrained. It's safer for the hair and the people around it.

Probably should've specified. I meant giant globs of conditioner; shampoo I use the normal amount.

And like the woman in the video, I tend to go through a 3:1 ratio of conditioner to shampoo.

Yeah, I don't get it. My hair is down to my arse and, outside lounging around the house, I keep it up in a bun or something similar about 90% of the time and a ponytail the other 10%(that's what I consider "down"). To do any different would mean having to keep running my hands through/over it to comb it back into place every five seconds and just forget about windy or rainy days, ugh.

Yet, my mother constantly complains about how I keep it up and that I should cut it if I'm not going to leave it down. I love my hair long, but I really just don't have the time of day to leave it truly down.

Ugh, yes to the stupidity of needing hair to be down. I tie mine up all the time and it's been breaking much less since I stopped constantly using elastics at the base. When I leave it down (right after washing), I always have to carry a clip so it doesn't get in food, sinks, toilets, other people's faces, etc. It's a pain and I try to avoid it. Braids are a godsend.
