Long straight hair is rather easy to maintain actually. I just have to brush/comb it everyday for about half an hour otherwise it starts getting really tangled really fast; which wouldn't be so bad except then I end up with a lot of pulled out hair in the shower.

Shampoo and conditioner would probably be the worst, since I need huge globs of the stuff to get every section. Oh and my neck starts to hurt if it starts getting too long. And I have to start putting it up whenever I sit down otherwise I risk sitting on it (and this goes double using the bathroom).

Usually I cut it by then; one time I let it grow a few inches longer but things only got more annoying.

Seriously. Long hair can be stupid-easy to take care of if you find the right routine for your hair type (these days, if I spend more than 10 minutes on mine outside of the shower, I'm either pampering myself, doing something elaborate for a special event, or having a truly crappy hair day), but half an hour every day is not what I'd call easy.

It really was. xDD;

Well, I just brush it in the morning while watching a show and/or catching up on online stuff that happened while I was asleep. It looks okay if I don't, but significantly better if I do.

I feel ya about the pain when it grows too long. :/ I actually have the right type of hair to grow it long, but last time I grew it to my heart's content I had to cut it because it gave me a constant headache.

Shampooing doesn't have to be that much heck.

I don't get this western idea that long hair has to be always down. People from cultures that favor long hair often also have a tradition of keeping it up, braided or otherwise restrained. It's safer for the hair and the people around it.

Probably should've specified. I meant giant globs of conditioner; shampoo I use the normal amount.

And like the woman in the video, I tend to go through a 3:1 ratio of conditioner to shampoo.

Yeah, I don't get it. My hair is down to my arse and, outside lounging around the house, I keep it up in a bun or something similar about 90% of the time and a ponytail the other 10%(that's what I consider "down"). To do any different would mean having to keep running my hands through/over it to comb it back into place every five seconds and just forget about windy or rainy days, ugh.

Yet, my mother constantly complains about how I keep it up and that I should cut it if I'm not going to leave it down. I love my hair long, but I really just don't have the time of day to leave it truly down.

Ugh, yes to the stupidity of needing hair to be down. I tie mine up all the time and it's been breaking much less since I stopped constantly using elastics at the base. When I leave it down (right after washing), I always have to carry a clip so it doesn't get in food, sinks, toilets, other people's faces, etc. It's a pain and I try to avoid it. Braids are a godsend.

When I was a little girl, my mom refused to let me cut my hair, even for trims. It ended up at one point long enough that it was to my knees, and was no amount of hell to deal with. (With the added bonus that my sister would sit on it while I was on the couch. It was so long I wouldn't notice until she pushed me off. She loveeeed doing this.)

But, um, "brushing it for half an hour" is not what I'd call "easy".
