I've always felt like this, anon, though I only recently found a slash pairing I liked. I just hated how fandoms screamed "LOOK AT THE MISOGYNY!" and then turn around and ship nothing but M/M and mock/bash het, femmeslash, and gen. I don't mind that fandom is full of Dean/Cas and Sam/Dean, but I would occasionally like to read Dean/Lisa and Sam/Jess and Anna/Bela, and Dean/Bela and pretty much any pairing that isn't slash. *shrugs* That applies to plenty other fandoms, too.

I never said all slashers were bad. I just said you see the problems with obsessive fans, and those obsessive/crazy fans tend to be slashers if slashers are the largest majority of the fandom. And now I feel like I'm not explaining it properly...
The one fandom I've been in where het was common, the largest het ship was full of crazies too, so it's certainly non-exclusive.

I would love to see a more about the females on Supernatural too. A long, well-written adventure about Jo, Ellen, Sheriff Mills, Bella, Ruby, or Meg, with our without het or femslash - I would totally read ANY of those! I feel like I've seen a fair bit of Jo lately, but usually it's short stuff, and I need a big meaty, well-written plot to sink my teeth into!

And this is a little bit off-topic, but) I'm a total slasher but MAN do I loves me some Sam/Jess! ...Although a lot of the time I love it when it's in conjunction with Dean / Cas (I gotta be me). There's just something about Sam/Jess that means that we might actually get to see the boys happy for once!

I'm going to go ahead and pimp the Lullaby series by Epiphanyx7, not because anyone asked, but because it's sort of a gen /het thing moving towards some slash and it's awesome and very well written and I'm kind of obsessed with it, and maybe if we all read it and pester the author she'll update more quickly (a girl can dream)? http://archiveofourown.org/works/365320/chapters/593325. This series is an AU where Dean still hunts on weekends but Jess is alive, married to Lawyer!Sam, and pregnant. It has a lot of Jess/Sam in domestic bliss, but also a lot of Dean being an awesome dad-type, and Cas and Jess being BFFs. It is also SLOWLY becoming Dean/Cas, has QUICKLY become my new head-cannon, and Cas has a baby. You know you want to read it...

Yes! I've seen only a handful of big bang or longer fics that strongly feature any of the women in SPN. It always makes me sad.

TBH, for all that SPN is my "SHIP ALL THE THINGS WITH ALL THE OTHER THINGS!" fandom, I have a hard time shipping Sam with anyone but Jess or Dean (or Cas). I think it's because of how much I love the Sam/Jess dynamic. That and I love the idea of strong, awesome women who can handle their men being torn up, which is why I like Dean/Lisa, too.

Huh! I read a butt-load of fic, but I hadn't hit that one yet. Prolly 'cause it's a WIP. I'll have to check it out!

You should! I read a lot of fanfic that I enjoy, but to me this one just seemed kind of special because it's different: The Winchesters are (pretty much something like) happy, but the plot is still exciting and suspenseful. And Jess is there, and Cas too! And they're all all-kinds of awesome. I hope you enjoy it...

I think part of the reason het and femmeslash are so unpopular with SPN fandom is that most of the female characters are introduced much later, after everyone has already formed attachments to Sam/Dean or Dean/Cas, as well as the fact that so few female characters ever have interactions with each other (notable exceptions being Jo/Ellen and... maybe sort of Ruby/Anna?), and rarely survive long. There's just not nearly as much material to base it off of

Just looking at the pairings you suggested, Dean/Lisa happened after both S/D and D/C. (plus lots of people think the development of Dean's affection for her came completely out of the blue). Dean-or-Sam/Bela should probably have more fic, but I can't imagine it being super popular given the short time given. Anna and Bela have literally no screentime together or reason to interact.

(Sam/Jess is an exception to the came-after-other-ships, but we barely see anything of Jess. And personally, I've never seen anything except love towards that ship, even if it's in a shallower, non-fic-reading way.)

I dunno, I'm probably just making excuses. But I do think these things play a big role.
