I guess in some fandoms yeah but I can't with these people who say OH MY GOD ALL FANDOMS ARE MAINLY SLASH OMG WHAT SHOULD I DO OMG LIFE ENDING IM SO OPPRESSED

Like seriously guys, a lot of major fandoms are het based. Calm yourself, maybe write something to counteract the evil slash you lazy asses.

This. When I think of the largest, worldwide phenomena-spawning, major league fandoms from the past decade and a half or so (the time I, personally, have been in fandom), they're all dominated by het pairings (with varying degrees of presence for everything else). Harry Potter. Twilight. The Hunger Games. And yet you always get asswaffles like the secret maker whinging that slash fans are taking away from everything else, and no one ever wants to acknowledge that really het fans just feel deprived if they don't get all the things to themselves.

You know, the thing that gets me is that FS! gets SO MANY secrets EXACTLY like this. Like, I just have to wonder if it's trolling of some kind (het or even slshers who just like to yell), or if it could somehow actually be people who are new to FS every time and didn't see the 3,000 secrets JUST LIKE THIS that came before...? Like, what does posting the same secret once a night actually do to solve the "problem" (and I will even admit that not being able to find the fiction you want IS a problem...not one that the world at large has any sort of obligation to solve, mind you, but it IS a problem for the OP none the less)?

Yeah. It's like at least once a week, there's a really generic secret like this, and I just feel like if the OP(s) really wanted to accomplish something, they would be better served to name their specific fandom(s), and at least then, fellow fans might be able to point them to some good recs/comms/what have you.

Oh, and ftr I do ship a little bit of everything including het, and there are even some fandoms where I prefer gen. I just get sick of het fans (and it is almost always het fans) crying delicate crystalline tears about there daring to be a small number of fandoms where their tastes aren't actively catered to, especially since they still have 99.9999% of all canon sources (even ones where there's no reason for there to be romance at all, and the writers clearly just threw it in last minute for so-called demographic appeal, despite the romantic subplot then taking away time from the things we're actually there to see/read about). /bit of a gen fan, really

I've actually made an oppressed het fan secret but it's based on someone I actually know. But seriously, bitching about how slashers write too much are hilarious and are not going to change anything.
