I really like that it inspires you to review the fic later on, since it sounds like you're mostly just fixing the technical aspects so that the basis of the story, the idea behind it, is allowed to shine. I know I've found it hard in the past to ignore awful grammar or punctuation in favor of great characterization or plotting. I might try this sometime.
