You don't look for deep reasons why a guy always goes for tall women, or women with red hair. You don't interrogate a taste for stilettos, or leather pants. It's hot for somebody, or it isn't.
M/m is just like anything else. A lot of people who aren't you find it really, really hot. Hotter than those other pairings. Which is a thing that has nothing at all to do with liking or loving female characters. You can side eye all you want, it's not going to change anything.
