Okay, so every time this argument comes up, people rush in to say that RPF isn't creepy unless you're stalking/invading the privacy of the real people/showing them your epic shrine to their love, etc. But really most people who stalk celebrities DON'T WRITE RPF. AND THEY ARE STILL CREEPIER. There are people who do both obviously, but the majority of stalkers are not people in fandom, not the ones posting stories where they're pig farmers who fall in love at the county fair or even the ones who dig up "evidence" for their non-AU fic. There just isn't that great an overlap.

tl;dr IT IS CREEPY TO STALK CELEBRITIES EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT WRITING PORN ON THE INTERNET.

100% true. Every time you hear about someone doing some absolutely insanely creepy thing, people are all, "oh, that fandom must be nutty." But most of the time those people are not in internet fandom, and indicting everyone who might be a fan of a movie/tv show/actor/musician for the crimes of one person has always struck me as being more than a bit much.
