(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 02:51 am (UTC)(link)Sexuality (for me) refers to basically what you'd tap, and romantic/sexual orientations might not necessarily align, in cases like that it's common to be kind of confused
how/what were you confused about though, anon? I'd like to know what it was like in your case

(Anonymous) 2012-06-05 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)It sounds stupid to me explaining it, but basically when I was a teenager and talking about husbands/babies/white picket fences, it just never appealed to me. Then I got my first boyfriend, a super conservative Christian, who wanted to get married at 18 and start having kids, and when I said I didn't want any part of that, he broke up with me. And I started thinking "well, I don't want a husband and kids, so maybe that means I'm a lesbian", but I didn't actually want a relationship with a woman either.
It took me entirely too long to realize that just because I didn't want the type of relationship with a guy that I was raised to think I should want didn't mean I wasn't straight. Right now I'm single and don't want to be in a relationship anytime soon but when I imagine a hypothetical future relationship, it's with a guy.
I realize this all probably sounds ridiculous, but I blame it on being raised in the south with this very conservative, Christian, traditional small-town mentality. Like, I honestly didn't realize until just recently that there are other options than meet a guy, get married, have a bunch of kids. But just in the past year or two my worldview/outlook on relationships has opened up so much, and I realize there are so many different options, and enough people out there that I don't think it's impossible to find someone who wants the same things I do.
All that said, while I've never been interested in a woman thus far, I'm not ruling out the possibility that it might happen someday, because who knows what the future holds?
(Hopefully this all makes some kind of sense...I'm running on far too little sleep here!)
