It's... really not that hard to understand. Straight women are sexually attracted to men, so if one dude is hot, two dudes is even hotter.

There's also the fact that het romance is everywhere. I usually like the canon pairings but I'm not interested in fanworks for something that's already covered in canon. I turn to fandom for the things I don't get in canon, and slash is one of them.
