1 - wow. narrow minded much? what does his personal position have to do with the show? you'd probably be surprised by how many conservatives there are in show biz.

Apparently people think socialist just = generic Bad Person, so anyone who uses it is either trolling or hateful and ignorant, rather than...just...well informed.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Conservatives? Hateful and ignorant? Surely you jest.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Because you can only be conservative or liberal.

All I need to know.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Good job not reading actual news.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Good job at using a sensationalist news site that has headlines like "Obama's Terrorist Ties and Radical Roots" and presents opinion as fact as your source for your news. Fox News too moderate for you?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
em>President Barack Obama sparked more controversy after awarding the U.S. government’s highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom, to divisive labor activist Dolores Huerta, a fellow “community organizer,” collectivist, radical feminist, as well as the honorary chair of Democratic Socialists of America. DSA, which openly calls for "restructuring society," even more "massive redistribution of income" and increased central planning on its website, is the largest socialist organization in the nation and Socialist International’s main U.S. affiliate.

Outraged critics slammed Obama’s decision to award the prestigious medal to such a controversial figure, calling it an embarrassment and disgrace to the nation. Huerta, of course, has evoked passionate nationwide criticism for absurd statements like the oft-cited “Republicans hate Latinos,” which helped provoke a nationwide outcry against tax-funded so-called “Mexican-American studies” programs. She regularly attacks the United States for allegedly stealing land from Mexico, too.

Is this real life? People consider this type of journalism to be "actual news"?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
No, you're right, we should only listen to news that purposefully leaves out important events because it looks bad for whatever bias they stand for.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
*this is what conservatives actually believe*

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
*presuming anyone who believes Obama is socialist is conservative*? Or *presuming these news outlets are conservative*?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
You honestly think the site you just posted isn't a conservative website? Or that the majority of people who call Obama a socialist aren't conservative?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
We obviously have a different definition of 'conservative', considering that site slams conservatives as much as it does liberals.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's founded by the John Birch Society, which is a conservative organization.

DA

TBF that doesn't make what it shares untrue, even if it WERE conservative funded.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's presenting the news as fearmongering with a conservative bias presenting opinions as facts in what is intended to be an objective.

If you're trying to prove a point, posting an article from that site isn't going to help you.

lol no, the president is not a "socialist"

socialism is primarily about social ownership, big government might be leftist also but big government =/= inherently socialist. obama is actually relatively conservative when compared with other global politicians

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

But compared to American politicians, he's pretty liberal. And he does support socialist-type programs, so you could reasonably classify him as socialist. Though I don't get why socialist instantly means evil. I'm a firm believer in capitalism and small government, but the idea in society that socialism = bad is absurd. It doesn't work in the long-term(my own interpretation of past and present global politics), but most people who treat socialism as a bad thing can't think on that scale.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking as an European in a country where the current President is considered a socialist, yeah, basically. The idea that socialism = bad is very American, and generally doesn't have anything to do with actual, modern-day socialism in most civilized countries.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Being liberal, or on the left, doesn't make one automatically a socialist. What you are reflecting here is exactly the kind of thinking that ended up with 'socialist' becoming a derogatory term in the US for leftists because Americans treat socialism as a catch-all term for 'leftist shit we don't like'. Socialism is an ideology that has very specific meaning, beliefs etc. Not all liberals are socialists. Not all leftists are socialists.

I'm a socialist. Please trust me on this one - Obama is not.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-06 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said that being liberal mean you were a socialist or anything like that. I just said that our liberal president appears to support programs that have roots in socialist programs, and by that reasoning, he could be said to support socialism. From what I've seen, most of the left is progressive, not socialist. So, no, I'm not using socialism as a catch-all for liberal policies/programs. I can tell the difference.

You and I could be using two slightly(or not) different definitions or concepts for socialism, based on region/education/history. As I mentioned in my comment, American concepts of socialism and liberal policies are different from the rest of the world, and even in the US, it varies. You'll get different attitudes in California vs. Georgia vs. Maryland. Vastly different ones.
