Actually, J.K. Rowling has stated that the names are pretty much meant to be stereotypical. Harry Potter is a stereotypical name for an Englishmen, while Seamus Finnegan is a stereotypical name for an Irishmen. It's an indirect way of clarifying nationalities--with a name like Cho Chang, you can pretty much assume that that person has Asian blood. It's racist because it IS supposed to be racist. xDD So I suppose if there was an black America at Hogwarts, his name WOULD be Tyrone Jackson.

No, he's Jamaican, Potterverse being in the UK and things. There are actually three - that I can remember - named black characters in the series, two males (Jordan and Thomas) and a females (Jones, IIRC, Angelina? whatever).

And yes, JKR has a very Raj thing about stereotypical names.

Plus, some people DO have names like that - I've known people with names that are very "stereotypically" asian, African American, Irish, etc.

I personally ship Elan/Nale and Sabine/Haley, but then I was always the one for crack!ships. :-D

Lych/Goblin (am I a sad fan that I can't just now remember his name?) is anther good crack!ship, though and I endorse it mightily.
