For me, I think the series with be a million times better if that lackluster useless Asami was gone. She's only there because Mako needed someone to date to make Korra jealous/give them a reason why they could finish the tournament. She's so boring and flat, ughhhhh

At least Asami isn't a self absorbed dick like Mako is. She actually has potential to develop because of what happened with her father, while Mako acts like jerk of the week again.

Agreeing with this. Though I'm annoyed that her function at least at first was basically "make Korra jealous" I do like her character and hope she rises above that.

How is Mako a self absorbed dick? I'm not even a major fan of him. I think the "cool" act he does is actually few and far between, if anything he's pretty funny and forthcoming. I'm not sure what he did that is so allegedly jerky besides maybe the first episode he's in. And we've seen him freak out multiple times when people he cares about are in danger, and jump headfirst into that danger to save them (Bolin, Korra). I actually finally started actively liking him in episode 9, and even was shipping Mako/Korra by the end of it.

She doesn't act...anything. Besides the fact that her VA rarely emotes, she doesn't...really...do...anything...interesting. She's just there, whining about everything is just "like her father"

I actually like Asami, not only as a potential female bestie for Korra, but as a foil to her as well. (Feminine, calm, collected to Korra's impulsive tom boyishness). I just wish she'd get some real character development. And if she and Korra become rivals over Mako, instead of friends, I swear I will legit quit the show.

THIS. I don't care which one of them ends up dating him as long as they're friends because I love the potential that friendship has. Asami/Korra endgame would also be awesome but lbr, it won't ever happen >:/

Mako is only there to provide a romantic interest for Korra. He has no personality besides being a jerk who can't seem to commit himself fully to any relationship he develops.

Asami on the other hand has the potential to develop as an interesting character and provides a counter to Korra's brash personality. It would be nice to see her character and Korra develop a friendship outside of being Mako's love interests.

lol what. Mako has a personality. He's indecisive, he's serious, he's egotistical, rash, dorky, protective, emotionally conflicted. He stands out on his own.

Asami on the other hand is just the pretty rich girl who races cars. She has no flaws what so ever, and no personality for that matter! Her only purpose in the show was to be Mako's girlfriend and cause drama, that's it. She doesn't do anything else. She's a bland papercut-out that doesn't bring anything to the show.

Hey now. Mako's apparently been pretty committed to his relationship with his brother his entire life- and before anyone throws the girl-Bolin-liked-had-the-audacity-to-like-his-brother example out there, keep in mind we're balancing their entire previous lives after their parents were out of the picture against one incident that Bolin doesn't seem all that permanently scarred over.

There was no way that relationship didn't require commitment, but Mako worked to sustain it.

Yeah, he's definitely my least favourite. I like his scenes with Bolin, but otherwise I have no idea where the fuck they're trying to go with his characterisation. Especially after the last episode. Just. How does it make sense for him to freak the fuck out (even more than he did when Bolin was kidnapped) while everyone else is comparatively calm. It was so forced it was embarrassing. idgaf about shipping, but it'd make a lot more sense for Bolin or even Tenzin to freak out like that.

Not even getting into the situation with Asami and Korra. I'm fine with characters being dicks, but unless someone calls him out on it, yeah I'm not his number one fan.

Holy shit, did he? I hadn't even thought of that. Ugh. Really, Mako?

I guess it upsets me because I want Mako and Bolin to be awesome bros together but they get basically no screentime compared to the romance drama. And I like shipping personally but damn if it isn't WAY overdone and ruined when it's done like this. :/

Was there on screen time for him to flip out nearly as much about Bolin though? There was a lot going on in about two in that scene to BOOM them being broken out of jail by Lin. :/

Asami is distancing herself from Team Avatar, it seems. In the new ep ten clips, she's not only seated far away from them, and Mako (Mako and Korra are seated side by side) but while fighting equalists on Naga, the order is Korra->Mako->Bolin->Asami. Mako is holding onto Korra's hips, actually. I think they're going to push Asami onto Bolin, IMHO.

...Considering, also, that all the clips from the finale shown so far have Mako and Korra together fighting, just the two of them...yeah. I smell a breakup coming.

I agree. Him freaking out over Korra being missing just doesn't make sense, considering how little he freaked out in comparison to Bolin getting kidnapped. :\ Korra suddenly has a great deal of importance to him and we weren't really shown why?

I mean I really don't care what happens in the show, at all, I just want it to be explained through good story telling instead of "and then this character felt this"

Someone called him and opportunist once, and I kinda agree? But I can see that developing from having to take care of Bolin when they were young. But I really don't like how his attitude flip-flops with Korra. He trusts her when he has to or when it's easy, but when it's hard he doesn't trust her at all and only apologizes when he's proven wrong.

And it's not fair that he's the only one to get emotional over Korra being kidnapped just because he fell in love with her outta nowhere.

I didn't fully dislike anyone from the last team, though Katara got on my nerves. But damn do I freakin' hate Mako.
