I'm grossed out by the DLC too. Especially when all the men are just badass upgrades with all the abilities (and more) of their original incarnations, rather than squishy moe uguu crap like the ladies got.

But I'm definitely buying the game. Why? Because
1. It is just bonus content, not the main game itself
and
2. I want to continue seeing FE localized.

It's your choice and everything. But if you have the means to buy a game in the series and don't because of separately paid bonus content, don't complain when we don't get future installments over here. With the treatment of FE overall, we need to keep showing it's profitable, and all these people turning up their noses are saying the opposite.

Lmao @ the Awakening art. Wtf is this, wedding peach?

I was so excited when they announced Micaiah for DLC...and then I saw what they were putting her in.

I'll still be getting Awakening for sure, because as anon mentioned above - if we want localizations, money speaks (and I'm still very disappointed, though not terribly surprised, that we missed Shin Monshou). But I'm feeling torn on whether to get the DLC or not.

If I had a 3DS I'd totally get it when it comes out, but there's no way I'm getting some of the bonus content exactly due to this. I know a lot of people don't like Micaiah, but I do, and I just hate the hell right out of her art for this so much.

Don't play this myself but even I'm wondering why exactly this was necessary.

Micaiah is so challenging to use in FE10 it's so annoying ugh

Ughhhh. I'm torn between my disgust and supporting more Fire Emblem. Bluh.

If it helps at all, she doesn't just use staves; it's bows and lances, too. No swords. And she's not actually getting married according to a translation.

I don't play FE but jesus christ the older designs are so much better. What a step backwards.

The first anon has a point, in that it appears that Japanese companies aren't very good at this "scouting the market, supply/demand" stuff, from what I've seen, but as a fan your main weapon to make your opinion count is your wallet.

Like, take the controversy over Diablo III:

Whatever your personal opinion of the situation is, at least a few hundred gamers were outraged, possibly more.

But because 3.5 million people bought it in record time, who is Blizzard going to listen to?

Something to keep in mind.

I know I'm not getting Awakening and this is a major reason for it. This game's DLC's concept sounds ridiculous to me on its own, + the redesigns are terrible if not downright offensive (as pictured). And everything else looks bland, so. If this is the direction they're going with FE, I'm out! It's not like I'm short on games to play.

She looks like a traditional Pegasus Knight, which is probably the point.

It's still sorta dumb, but it's way better than what happened to Micaiah.

Buy the game but don't buy the DLC like this.

I'm serious: DLC is the sort of thing they can get EXACT sales figures on. If the fanservice upped female characters don't sale, they'll hopefully realize that doing this negatively impacts sales.

Sexist? Fan-servicey?

I don't know the character or series, so going to need some help here. Am I not getting something, because it's not like she's progressively showing more skin? Just getting more decorated and feminized, which I don't see as sexist (unless this is a character that lives only to subvert gender roles, which I doubt). Did she get a rank promotion in the second to last? Is she getting more involved in more of a state/political role in a monarchy in the last (since it seems to not be a wedding dress)?

Uhh, you mean the second one? Because the first one is pretty clearly sexist.

Anyway, Eirika (the character feature) is the queen. There's no rank promotion that can exist. As for the dress itself... the dress itself is fine, all things considered, I don't really care. The main problem is the weapon thing - she's exclusively a sword user in FE8. She can use no other weapons except swords.

In the FE13 DLC, she can use Staves, Lances, and Bows, but not swords - and the staff (which is healing magic in FE land) is the one featured in her official art. I wouldn't really call it horribly sexist, but... it doesn't feel like Eirika. It's such a bizarre thing to change, since the entire point of the DLC is getting to use characters from past FE games. Why would you take a character who's entirely a physical attacker and turn her into a healer? I'm not saying a female character being a healer is in and of itself sexist, but I don't get why she isn't using swords.

Oh and also: Same anon.

It really becomes kind of odd when you compare it to her brother's redesign.

Not only does he get to keep his original weapon, his armor gets more elaborate and badass, as opposed to him ending up in regal clothes like his sister.
