(Anonymous) 2012-06-18 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)IT'S NOT ACTUALLY A REQUIREMENT THAT YOUR FIC INCLUDE THAT WORD. TRY TO THINK OF SOME SYNONYMS FOR "MOVE LIGHTLY ACROSS THE SURFACE OF" THANKS IN ADVANCE.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-18 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)It's definitely not a fandom specific thing. I've seen it in fics from several of my fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 06:03 am (UTC)(link)I'd also like to nominate 'blown' and 'clashing' (as in: 'pupils blown wide' and 'teeth clashing together') as two more fanfic!sex!words I'd happily never see again.

(Anonymous) - 2012-06-19 06:49 (UTC) - ExpandIt's snake time! Also vegetarian spiders.
Anyway, if it isn't obvious by now, today we're going to look at snakes.

And for today's spider...
Let's take a look at Bagheera kiplingi! And yes, it really is named for Bagheera from the Jungle Book. A species of jumping spider that's found in Central America, it's particularly notable for the fact that it's... well, mostly vegertarian. It doesn't eat bugs, just the tips of the leaves on the ant acacia plant. That's what it appears to be holding in most of the pictures. While a few other spider species have also been shown to eat nectar, none does it to the extent that these little guys do. They're known to live in groups and hang out together. The males even stick around and help the female spiders look after their babies- something which pretty much no other spider species does.

And here's a video if you want to watch one of them in action!
