Poster here! :D It is highly amusing to read all the replies to my secret, I love it. Honestly, this is a side to me that I keep in check (thus me goin anon), because I AM an understanding and caring person, but gosh darnit sometimes you just gotta fuck it all and let the bitch out.

That said, I would love to clarify that no one is exempt from the anime shirts or the cosplay. You can be the prettiest and skinniet snowflake in the world, but wearing that Inu Yasha T-shirt or that Digiko kitty hat will always make me wonder what you were thinking when you got dressed that morning. And just cause you have a smokin' hot bod, doesn't mean it'll make up for the god awful costume you threw together at the last minute. Also, I have nothing against the heavier people in the audience, but come on, do you really think you'll look good in that Faye costume? DO YOU? I'm all for cosplay being about having fun, but don't you dare fucking cry when everyone makes fun of you for having a shit costume/being fat and showing lots of skin no one wants to see. People will recognize good cosplay when they see it, it doesn't matter if you're a stick or a blimp.

If you would have specified that in the secret I would have felt better about it 8D;

Sometimes last minute costumes are okay, as long as you are just doing it for fun. I wouldn't expect anyone to come up to me and be like "OMG SO CUTE" if I just pulled something out of my closet for cosplay.

I actually shy away from cosplaying BECAUSE I know my costumes would suck :| And the one I did last year was crap, despite all the fangirls that SURROUNDED ME. (it was frightening T_T)

Fat cosplayers =/= bad cosplayers though. But even with a good costume, being fat can be a disadvantage. Especially with crossplaying. It sucks. :|

As far as people wearing anime accessories out in public. They are just happy with their hobby or interests. Though I do think it gets boring when EVERY anime fan seems to be wearing the same shirt....

Yeah well, limited space an' all. ^_^ I just had too much to vent!

Of course last minute costumes are okay, even I've done that. But you can't really blame people either when they post your picture up on the internet and mock you mercilessly because of it. You were the one that willingly walked out in public wearing it afterall.

As for the anime accessory people...well they remind me of all the bad dressers that go on What Not To Wear. They all have a reason why they dress the way they do, but more often than not it's because they are incredibly insecure people who aren't happy with their body and think growing up equates to becoming a boring conservative drone that's lost touch with their inner child. When in reality it is possible to dress quite fashionably without sacrificing comfort or personal taste.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh wow...

Body image and anime accessories are mutually exclusive. Also, to my understanding, a lot of those annoying fangirls also like to watch anime because "it's more grown up". If it were about an aversion of becoming an adult, they wouldn't frown upon Western cartoons for being too kiddy.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-21 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm not saying it's applicable to every person, but betch plz. The reason they don't like Western cartoons is cause they're WESTERN! They just create these other lame excuses to make their animus look like they're superior in every way.

So do you hate everyone wearing sports jerseys? How about band t-shirts? Theme park shirts? Vacation destination shirts? People wear this stuff because OMG! They like it! Imagine that!

When people are fans, they like to advertise their interest. They like to share it. I don't wear my Gundam Wing t-shirt because I hate my body. I wear it because I love the show. I get lots of compliments on that old shirt. It's a conversation piece, a connection point between me and the world. I am not ashamed of my anime shirts. I like to share. If you don't like it, look the other way. No one's making you stare at the Nyanko on my chest.

If you think it's childish, that's your own personal opinion, but you're going to have to start hating sports jerseys and band shirts and all the other interest based shirts out there that people wear. It's the same thing. People expressing their love for and interest in a certain subject that they enjoy. It's not a crime. God forbid people enjoy themselves.

I wish all you damn anons would stop trying to make people ashamed of having a hobby that they enjoy and want to share. We're obviously not the ones who need to grow up.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-23 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
I am not trying to make people feel ashamed for having a hobby...but then, when asked "What hobbies do you enjoy?" one does not reply, "Oh, I love going out in public in my oversized or alternatively three sizes too small anime shirt so that I can garner attention from complete strangers who also happen to be anime fans too, NYA~~~~!! *^_____^*" Actually my big problem is with their lack of subtlety, as they are almost always uglier than sin. But I think that is just the designer nazi in me. :P

If you don't like it, look the other way.

Now there is some sound advice, I must say! Anything you don't like, don't look at or do anything about! Genius!

I am glad you replied in a polite and understanding way. It is really appreciated. After all, I don't hold anything against you for feeling the way you do because, come on, I think we all experience that same feeling sooner or later. However, I am still glad and don't find anything wrong with the people out there that aren't afraid to represent their interests. Yeah, it can be embarrassing to me at times, but I respect their courage for doing something that I am obviously afraid to.

Also, I apologize for making that generalization of you. To clarify, I got the impression that you didn't want to be associated with open fans because others may think you are "one of them". Saying you didn't want any of them talking to you about anime or manga heavily gave me that impression, which seems sort of... snobbish and/or insecure. Correct me if I am wrong here, but that is what made me so cross towards your secret. A lot of it seemed harsh, is all.

[identity profile] garefowl.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Also, just to add: I happen to agree with what you have to say on heavier cosplayers and understand where you are coming from a lot more now that you have clarified. But then again, I think showing excessive skin isn't good with any cosplayer, no matter your body type.

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, hey. I wear my FMA shirt out in public. *shrug* I don't care what people think or say. If they're embarrassed, oh well, no skin off my back. Let them be embarrassed.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-21 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if it's so much courage as general apathy as to what others think of them. I'm like you though, embarrassed at times but there's a general respect for it. Personally, I don't want to wear my interests so openly, but that's just me.

I got the impression that you didn't want to be associated with open fans because others may think you are "one of them"

Actually it's not that I don't want others to think I'm one of "them" it's because everytime someone wants to talk anime with me here where I live, I'm on my way somewhere and don't want to stop to talk about any goddamn anime, lol. (that wouldn't fit in my secret though, so I left it out...fun to read all the replies to it though. I am now Super Nazi Bitch, HOOOOOOOO!) And I mean, of course I'm going to be annoyed and embarrassed being around the people who are total fangirl/boys who squeal and uncontrollably wapanese like there's no tomorrow, but who wouldn't? They are an embarrassment to mature fans everywhere, not just me.
