7. JOEL JOEL JOEL JOEL JOEL.

I like Mike better, but OH MY GOD MST3K SECRET. *loves you, anonymouse*

(Anonymous) 2007-07-23 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
^_^ While Joel is love, I'd be hard-pressed to say anything bad about Mike - the show may be over with, but he's keeping the spirit alive with Rifftrax.com. :D

I can't say much about the more personal stuff, but...

You call yourself a HUGE anime fan yet you've never heard of Cardcaptor Sakura! like WTF?

How many years has your friend been into anime? Because if your buddy only got into this nutty world within the last couple of years there's a very good chance that older series are an acronym and nothing more.

New shows get thrown out there, everyone rushes to watch them, then they get left behind in the stampede of the trendier titles and only the hardcore fans have their fond memories of those unforgettable universes. Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Wolf's Rain were on Cartoon Network but I'd wager that their fandoms are depressingly small compared to the hordes that devoured these series when they were on TV years ago.

If your friend doesn't know CCS why, that's a great reason to introduce the series to them, ne! The universe could use a few more CLAMP fans.

#19 poster here~

I'll be honest, she got into anime fairly recently; about half a year ago? Personally, when I got into anime, I did a lot of researching as to see what's popular, what's not, etc etc so I could grasp a better understanding of what I was getting into and know where to start. However, all she watches is what her friends watch, and "thinks" what her friends do about the series. :\

I suppose you're right about all the new shows overwhelming the old ones. *suddenly feels a little silly for posting that secret* Although surely if you visit any general anime forum, you'll see refernces to CCS, Cowboy Bebop and all the older classics.

I will introduce it to her. Although I can already predict her reaction to it...¬_¬; Haha, CLAMP ftw! *big CLAMP fan*

18. :( That's horrible, and I'm so sorry. If you trust certain people on your f-list, maybe you could make a flocked post specific to them? Or... ... *hugs you*

7 - JOOOOOEEEEL. <3333!! He's the cutest thing since ever.

22 - Holy crap, Yuri FTW! He's adorable. <333

12. To discriminate only generates hate, man. :(

19. So this person gets their "huge anime fan" street cred taken away since they haven't heard of one series? Or are they one of those people who claim they're an anime expert even though they only watch very popular shows?

21. I agree. I think they're story's more tragic with them as best friends. ;__;

[identity profile] samuraiter.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
7.) For me, the Joel version of MST3K will always be the definitive version of MST3K. Nothing against Mike, but Joel was the host when I discovered the show, and I always associate it with him. 'Tis good to love him; he always struck me as a genuinely nice guy stuck in a genuinely bizarre situation. :-) Like so many fans of bad movies.

[identity profile] rayiroth.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
22 - As if I can't love Yuri any more than I already do.

But I am very curious about the whole story.

You might need to choose which is more important- getting close or not getting hurt. I went to their show in Orlando back in February and wound up really close to the stage. It was awesome, until the crowd went batshit insane and I wound up not being able to breathe from so many people crammed against me. I thought my arm and some ribs were going to get snapped, and I have to say the best thing I ever did was have the security guy pull me out over the front railing. It was easier to see them from the balcony and I kept my bones the way they're supposed to be.

I lost my mom last year and if you ever need to talk you can poke me or drop a note on my lj or hit me up on AIM at Himemiya Chikane. I know how much it hurts.

[identity profile] lptiffany.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
23. GO! Get there early so you're one of the first to get in. Snag a good spot up front. Try not to be in the middle, unless you're in the first row (I'm assuming it's general admission, because you're concerned about being hurt). Stay to the side to avoid any mosh pits -- they tend to crop up a few rows back. Watch out for crowd surfers, because being kicked in the head sucks. Pretty much, just use common sense and you'll be fine :)

Seeing a band that has made such an impact on your life is something you DO NOT want to miss. Don't worry about being "close enough," don't count on it being perfect like some fairy tale, just go to have a good time! And 800 capacity? You'd be missing out on something so intimate. Just go.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-23 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
3. Haha, I thought all of Reverse Rebirth was a breeze, but the last Repliku battle in Sora's mode? DO NOT WANT.

8. My condolences. I never try to let fandom get in the way of my opinion of a series, but they pretty much ruined Wing and SEED for me (despite that I still like the latter to an extent). =\

12. I can relate in a way; I'm a Christian, yet I don't announce it to the world for the same reason. Once there was somebody who was really cool and a good friend, but when he found out about my faith? Never spoke to me again. At least I've moved on and decided he wasn't worth my time if he couldn't respect me for it.

15. I can relate to this as well, though I have no offline friends and I'm pretty distant from the people I know online. I chalk it up to being a timid person in general. :\ Good luck.

18. My condolences for your loss. And yes, it does suck when you have a legitimate depression yet are relectant to let it out for fear of being called an attention whore. I hope things go well for you.

21. IAWTS. Love the BFFs, can't stand the ship.

22. I thought Yuri was awesome before, but this makes him even more awesome in my eyes.

[identity profile] ignitible.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
18. While that really sucks, it's your LJ. To hell if they believe you or not. Your real friends will believe you and understand. Anyone else can suck it, but that's just my way of thinking. I hope things get better for you anyway.

21. I don't mind the pairing (used to love it), but I really agree on some parts. The friendship is so much deeper on many levels than people give it credit for. Hell, give me a good Axel/Roxas Best Bud story over buttsecks any day.

I agree with this so hard that it hurts. It makes me want to ask my mom to send me the game back so I can replay it all the way through yet again

My depression over the end scene is partially due to memories related to the person who made me a fan and partially because, at the worst point I've ever had, I decided that playing the end would be a nice thing to do before attempting to kill myself.

12. Personally, I'd like to see all of the squabbling go away. Personal choices shouldn't reflect on fannish status. FWIW, I don't automatically lose respect for someone when I find their politics differ from mine, but I go on my guard. I've been on the wrong end of ignorance and hasty judgment a few too many times, online and off.

14. See also "Anne Rice" and "Laurell K. Hamilton". Trust me, you don't want to ditch your editors.

15. I find this more of a comment on the situation than on your personality. I saw the same problems with my last school's anime/sci-fi collective. Cliques much? Argh. Chin up. Be yourself and someone will see that you're awesome. :-)

18. That's horrifying. My gods. Please know that you have my sympathy, whoever you are. I can't even imagine losing my mum.

[identity profile] zoom-gas.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
1. well yeah
5. LOL
9. Do want
12. I know right??? I don't consider myself any particular affiliation but I've noticed alot of people bitching about Republicans in fandom. But it shouldnt matter. I'm friends with people of every politcal persuasion.
18. :\ yeah. I'm really sorry about your mom, btw. That's a huge bummer. But you know what? Fuck them. Just write how you feel. If they don't believe you, they're shitty friends.

[identity profile] shattterheart.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
11. AMEN.
19. I also believe there's certain series you just HAVE to see in order to be an "otaku" and Card Captor Sakura is on that top 5 list. Along with Fushigi Yuugi, Tenchi Muyo, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach...all the old school and new school popular ones, unless there is a GOOD FUCKING REASON you haven't seen them.
21. Why is Axel eating a popsicle? wtf? [never played Kingdom Hearts II and don't ever plan to, I hate the fandom]

9. Are you from [livejournal.com profile] capslock_atla by any chance?

16. OH GOD D: I watch it on Youtube every now and then and get all sniffely every time.

18. I'm so sorry. You shouldn't be afraid to post in your own LJ about things going on in your life--that's what it's for. If people bitch at you, ignore them, since they're not worth getting upset over.

21. Agreed. I absolutely love their relationship on a platonic level, but when it goes beyond that, it just kind of kills it for me. Their friendship is beautiful.

Re: 5

Apart means to be separate from, removed. I think you mean "a part". If you're going to be a stickler for grammar and punctuation, it probably helps if your rant against it is written correctly.

Just sayin'.
