Uh, no. It is not up to cartoons and teen shows to raise kids and teach them about the world.

Yet they attempt to in other ways, even when they aren't openly moralizing, by reflecting important values of real society in positive ways: bravery over cowardice, defending 'the weird kid' instead of being one of their bullies, pursuing one's goals/dreams, developing a positive self-esteem, sneering at cheaters and those who betray their friends (even in small, childish, cartoon/TV-friendly ways), etc etc.

So while it's true that we shouldn't expect media to be the authoritative source for teaching kids all the facts of life and whatever, it's also total bullshit to suggest that the media we consume, especially as children and teens, has absolutely zero impact on us and in no way reflects the society in which it was produced.

I never said that was the case, that fiction has zero impact on us. You're putting words into my mouth. I said that it's not the responsibility of fiction to teach kids the ways of the world. It is the responsibility of fiction to tell a story. Whether that includes moralizing about heroes and bravery and the realities of romance or whatever else, that's up to the storyteller. You can choose which fiction you consume, you can pontificate on what you like and don't like, you can even speak out about what you'd like to see more or less of. But to frame your personal desires as a moral issue because "think of the children!!" is just absurd. No one owes you anything, and no one has a responsibility to portray the world in the exactly the way that you think is best/most realistic.

If read overmuch into what I considered the implications of what you said, fine. But now you're putting words in my mouth, as I certainly haven't demanded stories have morals to reflect my worldviews.
