6.) Here, here! I agree completely. :-) Get ahold of Xenogears to kick it up a notch, if you are so inclined.

16.) Quite the contrast here. I've just started reading Potter (now that all the books are out), and ... it's extraordinary, IMO. Dragonlance, on the other hand, seems to grow more and more laughable to me with age (and with each new release in the series), but I guess folks have different tastes.

oh lol hay it's not so secret anymore

[identity profile] suntea.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Played it! :D Xenogears was the reason I wanted Xenosaga in the first place.

yeah that was mine D: be pretty retarded to comment anon.

Allow me to show my ignorance.

What the hell does B.N.F. mean???

Thank you.

16. I don't think HP is the best literature out there, although I do enjoy the books very much. I haven't read Dragonlance, so I can't compare them.

But it seriously pisses me off that you think a "junior high school book" can't be a classic.

Lots of children and YA books are classics. And if you've honestly never read any... your loss.

Here, have a Secret Garden icon... a CLASSIC CHILDREN'S BOOOK, zOMG!!!

3.LOL. Agree. :)
That made me think about how exactly that would work--

(This also applies to transgender and, to some extent, asexual characters for me. Talk about ridiculously fucking rare.)

4. LOLWHAT!? XDDD

22. HEYHEYHEY. I LOVE HANA YORI DANGO. >:U And I love action packed series as much as the next dude, but every girl needs their fix. The Host Club anime sucks balls anyway [READ THE MANGA] and I've been over Furuba for YEARS. But don't hate on Hana Yori Dango. >:U

24. HE IS NOT MUKURO'S BOYFRIEND. *refuses to believe it*

[identity profile] kurachu.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
24. DUDE WTF EXPLAIN THIS HIEI/MUKURO THING TO ME CAUSE WHILE I WAS WATCHING IT I MUST HAVE MISSED THAT MEMO.

[identity profile] liferain.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
6) Xenosaga is my favorite game series. I love soooo much. n.n I feel like the only one in its fandom that disliked Xenogears, though. Haha.

What's the picture from?

[identity profile] otoselkie.livejournal.com 2007-07-27 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
The comic "Runaways." (As is my icon, actually).

Everyone seems to be ignoring this, but hey, there are shoujo serieses with killing and maiming and violence.

I'm not saying that shoujo is up your alley, because not all girls have to like it. I just see so many of the commenters saying "bah, that pesky shoujo and it's lack of ripped out eyeballs" or so, and I figured I might as well point out that I only love the violent, terrible stuff, and shoujo still provides. I personally need the pretty that shoujo has, but I couldn't do without the blood and guts either.

And just tell your friends that you prefer darker fare. Most of them will understand, I'm sure, it's a matter of tastes. You'll probably have to keep spelling it out for most of them, though, because I know I still get people asking me if I've seen the latest happy fun cutesy stuff, and I have to explain slowly and calmly that I haven't liked that sort of thing in the last 10 years or so.

[identity profile] infi-inficio.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
25. I sometimes feel the same way. :(

[identity profile] saave.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
7. Where's that from? o:
11. Yeah, that'd be pretty sweet. I'd probably do that too, if I could.
21. MMORPGs are fun. I ignore the stupid/ dumb/ idiot people, though. I play quietly to myself >>;
25. That's an awesome way to make a secret.

[identity profile] shoyesainomiko.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
7. It's from an American comic series called Runaways (which is totally awesome and I pimp it leik woah.)

Dear #22, screw your friends and go after what you like. If your friends get mad at you for it and get all drama-awesome on you, you don't need them in your life anyway. I am female and during my teenage years I too liked action and deeper meanings better than romance and junk. It's okay! Join the rest of us out here in the sun! :D

Re: #22

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
And I still do enjoy them! ;)

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
16. AMEN! I wish the movie industry would get a smack across the face, wake up, and finally realize that a lot of other fantasy stuff would make amazing movies! I would sell my own right arm for someone to make a really awesome movie out of some of my favorite books, but it won't ever happen because they aren't dumbed down kid friendly crap. That makes me so sad.

22. I'm so sorry. I would go berserk if my friends tried forcing me to watch that crap. They've watched it before while I've been around, and it's all I can do not to gag. I'm all for the violence and action stuff, too.

[identity profile] shahrizai.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Is any series with a corny logo that occupies 8 shelves in your local bookstore worthy of being called high literature? I mean, it's there with the Star Wars, Star Trek and Warhammer books!

[identity profile] musouka-manga.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Is there something wrong with liking BOTH?

[identity profile] ronsard.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
14. YES.

[identity profile] shoyesainomiko.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
7 & 26: Runaways represent; I couldn't agree with these secrets more.

[identity profile] elystia.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
16. Ahhh, so bitter :'D If HP didn't have such a large following, I bet you wouldn't see people write and left whining about how it's so terrible and annoying.

As someone who's always loved the fantasy genre (even before Harry Potter was even published), I have to say, suck it up. Harry Potter has introduced a lot of people to the genre who might not have read it otherwise. Garth Nix is one of my favorite authors and I might not have gotten in to him at all if Harry Potter hadn't strengthened my love of fantasy in the first place.

22. WHO ARE YOU AND WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND? D: I'll take an impending, action-filled apocalypse over love and drama any day. I always tell me friend when they try to hand me a shoujo anime that I just can't stand that genre.

25. This isn't very constructive, but your handwriting is amazing.

5.- Haha, that used to happen to me, and sometimes I felt the same way. Don't worry, eventually you'll come across a fandom where everyone's gonna pin you a character. Then you might not like because, gee... it just gets troublesome.

8.- Ack, actually I wanted to be on the opposite side. I'm actually pretty prepared to survive a zombie apocalypse. Anything but hunters, I have a defense method against. *dork* ♥

17.- BE MY FRIEND PLZZ? Well be lonely together? :3

18.- Eh, just one character here. Seriously.

23.- ...D:

4. If you're talking about an actual, audible voice, then that's...not good.

16. Then write something better. I'm not being sarcastic. I mean it. Write some genre-bending, brain-breaking, unsafe, highbrow, spectacularly meaningful work of literature, that happens to have dragons and wizards in it. I'd love to read it. Too few people are willing to mix good, straightforward, satisfying adventure stories with literary pyrotechnics. I honestly find myself reading Nabokov or Faulkner and thinking, "You know what would make this better? Zombies."

18. You're a time-traveling robot who is in prison and gets bitten by cats a lot?

In the meantime, if you want something about as far from the tame, safe fantasy norm as possible, try China Mieville.

26. Hell yes.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_dahne_/ 2007-07-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and actually, I heard they're making an animated movie of Dragons of Autumn Twilight.

4. You're not alone. I'm aware of it, it's a terrible curse - the first time I write something is really the only fair chance I get at feeling happy about it. After that I just can't see it fairly, I just see all the flaws, I'm overcome with how many ways it could be better. It's actually gotten so that I'm afraid to look at works right after I write them - I put it off, leave it sealed up, sometimes forever.

I'm fighting it, though - I mean, I'm studying Creative Writing, I have to get over it and I will. If you're serious, you can get the courage too. :)
