4. I get that voice too, and it stops me from finishing/accomplishing a lot of things. :| There isn't much more I can say except "try to fight it" but I feel somewhat hypocritical thinking about it.

7. I don't read Runaways anymore, but GERT ;_;

18. I think not being to identify with a wide range of characters is more common than you think. In all that I've read/watched/played/etc and have plenty of characters to love or like, I can also only think of a very small number of characters that I've strongly identified with and in those cases the experience has actually usually been uncomfortable for me. I see myself in the characters and their situations or experiences and it reveals painful truths that I otherwise wouldn't have examined. And I think to have that sort of meaningful experience with a work of fiction is pretty rare.

Addressing the other part of your secret, introverted characters, I think part of that might be because these types of characters can be very hard to write, especially in a visual medium when you aren't privy to their thoughts. Andy and Sakaki are two cases where this was done really well (I haven't seen the anime the third character is from, so I can't comment on that).

21. I'd play MMORPGs if it weren't for some of the other players. I read stuff about WoW and it's all crap like "lol fags" and such. I already live with an annoying teenage boy (my little brother :|), so I'd rather not deal with them in my escapist video game funtime, if I can help it.

That said, I've been reading about the upcoming Warhammer MMORPG and looking at screenshots and I find myself really tempted to try and get into the beta and otherwise getting really excited over the game. D: Maybe it will attract a more mature crowd?

25. I always like handwritten secrets. This has nothing to do with the content of the secret itself, but I just thought I'd point it out. :D

26. Karolina! &hearts And I know how you feel. I hate to see a gay character where their sexuality is treated as the only aspect of their characterization and that's what defines them. Like "I'M GAY. I CARE ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I AM GAY. DID I MENTION I'M GAY". :| Things are getting better, I think, but it's going slowly.

Don't feel bad at all, it's just a matter of taste.

24. What exactly would've been the point of his death? :/ To emphasize his omguh tragic past? I don't know. If he really did end up killing himself, I'd think that'd be fairly pathetic of him. His character development is far more valuable to me.

P.S. Hiei/Mukuro isn't a canon pairing in YYH. From what I can tell, you, like many others, attributed too much to the so-called "evidence" and therefore, could have very well did a misreading. :/ So no need to be so spiteful.

I agree. I can't think up any real, valid reason as to why his death would further the story. It'd just be forced and pointless. Not to mention the wangst! aspect would just kill the appeal the series had.

11. HAHA YES. That'd be amazing. Do it. ♥

22. The Hana Yori Dango drama is actually insanely better than the anime or manga, imo, but just read what you want. :3 I'll go from watching Kaleido Star to Battle Royale, and if my friends can't handle that, then they're shallow, selfish beings who don't deserve my attention. Same in your situation. Be yourself! :)

Uh...lololol.

Read #7 yet? I really cannot see Harry Potter as a children's or "junior high" book. Maybe it's just because I'm part of the generation that has grown up with it and is delighted that it grew up with me. But it's definitely a series for all ages. =\

#17 and #22

I'm the exact same situation.

4. I've done it.

6. Broken Link. Damn it. And it had so many comments....

9. Pru, ftw.

10. Loveless secret! ZERO SECRET. I think you just made my night. I've done this, too. And yes, even felt closer to someone after the fandom labelling-bond.

13. This sounds backwards? I hate the stereotype too, but I like the comfort fics going both ways.

16. I normally don't resort to this kind of thing, but I LOVE YOU.
THERE SHOULD BE MORE DRAGON LANCE SECRETS, DAMN IT.
There was supposedly a DragonLance movie, or one coming out... a few years ago, that's either so far underground it go nowhere or never actually got released.

I waited for it for three years.

The amount of people arguing with this makes me laugh. Honestly. I read DragonLance in middle school and HP came out closer to my graduation. I remember wishing it had been the other way around so that my reading didn't go downhill.
Maybe they were reading the wrong authors... Even in DL I was very picky about -which- stories I kept up with.

A valid point was made about fearing it being ruined, though.

18. Yeah, I've only ever fully related to one character. And a lot of people seem to think they do too, but I don't think anyone relates at quite the same level I do. So, I suppose in a sense I can relate to this... Except you probably don't have a million other people claiming the same damn thing.
I've never actually related to my favorite characters in a series before. I always obsess with the ones I don't relate to.

22. It's that stereotypical bullshit that keeps me from admitting to people offline that I even like anime. Give me action, drama, angst - with a little bit of comedy. Forget cute, lovey adorable crap. Slap-stick humor makes me hostile...
I thought I was going to hate Fruits Basket because of that 'cute' quality, but the angst made up for it, at least for me.

24. I LIKED THAT HIEI GOT A HAPPY ENDING, DAMN IT.

25. Relating. In a very hardcore and painful way.

26. I wish there was more of that in any canon. Christ.

Not!Secret: For fuck's sake...

Hey, if your friends try to force it on you just tell them outright, you don't like that kinda animé. I can't say I can really sympathise, because I like both and I'm not really that picky but I say don't try and just go along with your friends. Maybe you should try introducing them to some of your favourite series.

#22

[identity profile] ryuuzoku-aya.livejournal.com 2007-07-24 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Action and violence FTW. Typical high school romance series tend to bore the hell out of me. Give me explosions and giant robots and magic and the Earth being in peril any day.

No offense, but I seriously think you should try hooking up with people into the genres you like.

#7 So much word.

#24 The entire point of the end of YYH is that people lived and moved on and the world changed. Maybe you haven't read the manga, but even just watching the last few episodes of the anime ought to have clued you in on that one.

7. YES YES YES OH GAWD YES.

26. Two Runaways secrets in one post. I am happily surprised.

[identity profile] chelonianmobile.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
#11 - so am I! Well, my books are probably not gonna be popular enough to have a fandom, but I can try.

#16 - well, screw you. Guess what? I know it's not "great literature" and I happen to like it anyway because it's FUN.

And for the record, I own one Dragonlance book which I've been completely unable to be interested in.

3. Okay, I join this comm and Aladdin secrets start showing up. What is this? Because I totally did not waste time looking for any from the time before I joined.

16. I agree...Harry Potter's okay, but I have had it with people acting like it's the greatest thing since they put the pocket in the pita. And forget Dragonlance, I want Discworld movies.
