Fandom cliches you love
A couple off the top of my head:
I love 5+1 fic in every single fandom ever. Can't get enough of it.
I never have and probably never will get tired of the "what if Xander had been dressed up as Darth Vader/Batman/Freddy Kruger/a medieval knight/an alien/whatever instead of a soldier in "Halloween"? fics.
OT3s made of cute canon couple + bff who one half (or both halves) of the couple has mad hoyay/UST with.
That thing where the West Wing fandom collectively decided CJ always calls everyone by wacky nicknames, not just Charlie.
That thing where half The West Wing fandom decided seasons 5-7 were bad fanfic and ignored them, not just in fics but in all characterization discussions as well.
Who gives a fuck what the Avengers lineup was during 1979? Imma just throw a bunch of of my favorite members onto the team and go nuts.
Ditto for the Justice League.
Coulson is alive and no one cares why.
Captain America is totes mystified by the future, yo. What's a hard drive? Does it have something to do with golf?
Star Trek: all teh Ponn Farr fic cliches are good Pon Farr fic cliches :D.
Re: Fandom cliches you love
Oh and SGA deciding early on that Ronan played a musical instrument/was artistic before being drafted.

Yess. I've had a thing for this since I saw the X-Files episode where Mulder and Scully had to pretend to be married. Ever since I love this trope.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 02:07 am (UTC)(link)Yes, I know it's problematic but I still find it stupidly romantic.
Also, high school AUs, band AUs, college AUs, WHATEVER AUs I LOVE ALL OF THEM.

We hate each other's guts, but that means we'll be having sex by the end of this fic.
Loki wants cheap amusement + Tony Stark wants to know how magic works = bam, that means they'll be having secret sex all over the place soon. Thor will be angry but understanding. Steve will be worried. Everyone else will be too happily paired up to care. Rearrange pairings as necessary.

The "blanket scenario" fics, though I don't think I've seen one in ages...
I also love baby!fic/Kid!fic especially if it involves a character you wouldn't think of as good with kids being surprisingly good with kids. I'm not sure if that's actually fandom cliche through...
Re: Fandom cliches you love
Sherlock is a bitch when he's sick.
Sherlock is adorable/cuddly while he is sleepy/sleeping.
The cliche that most Marauders era fic is Remus/Sirius. I am a huge fan of that pairing (but it's ok if you're not shippers please don't kill me!)
I will never get tired of crossover art with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Seriously, my favorite new law of the internet is "if it exists, there is a pony of it."
Oh shit, I'm going to get flak for this one. Please do not hate me. I like Derpy Hooves. Yes, I know she is problematic. No, I didn't realize this until recently. My friend and I both watch MLP and she has an eyesight problem (blind in one eye) and she is a ditz sometimes and so we have both enjoyed Derpy for a long time. Again, I apologize to anyone Derpy may have offended, and I know she is problematic but. . .I still think she is cute and I like her.
I am a sucker for unrequited love in fic. It makes my heart ache in the best way.
This is only slightly related >_>
Re: Fandom cliches you love
In other fandoms too (like in Naruto, despite not keeping up with the anime beyond the start of that exam tournament they had going and learning everything that happened afterward via fics, fandom!secrets and the occasional frustrated venting of a friend), but the canon of Harry Potter lends itself especially well to that kind of story.

Does anyone know if there are any fandoms that still do the Harlequin challenge? (Where they take the blurbs off the back of Harlequins and slash the heck out of it. Some awesome trashy gems came out of those!)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 04:10 am (UTC)(link)A few more that I like:
- Sailor Moon crossovers. I will NEVER get tired of seeing random characters dressed as Sailor Senshi.
- A male character is revealed to secretly be a crossdresser when no one is looking (especially if he's a MANLY MAN like Thor or Wolverine).
- Characters discover fanfic of themselves on the internet and freak out. Meta ensues!
- Parodies and trollfic written in the style of My Immortal.

Re: Fandom cliches you love
(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 04:23 am (UTC)(link)It's a fandom thing, because it does nothing for me in real life. I mean, it's not a squick or a turn-off or anything, but IRL it just sounds weird and contrived and rather nonsensical, whereas in fic I'm like OMG I NEED A BUNK GIVE ME FIVE MORE PARAGRAPHS OF THIS PLZ. (I'm also pissed that this trope seems to only happen to men in slashfic, never women in het or femmeslash. It's actually gotten to the point where it's rather condescending, like us poor females are too insecure to weather some dirty talk or something.)

I also really like high school AUs. when it's done right I end up shrieking with glee at my computer screen, and I have a smile on my face for hours after reading it.
Re: Fandom cliches you love
This is a beautiful cliche. At least, if it actually happened to be a cliche and something that wasn't true. Coulson never died, silly!
Alright, putting on my love cap.
- Oblivious!Character/Pining!Character. I fucking love that, having it almost unrequited, but it's only because one half of the pairing is suffering from social/communication fail.
- smush/portmanteau ship naming :D Jisbon, Sterek, Sterica, Kataang, Sansae (sp?), whatever. I don't even care if I ship them, I love trying to say the names out loud. ATLA/LoK ones always sound like comic book sound effects too. So fun!
- "Closer" fanvids. Yeah yeah, none of them will ever actually be as good as the Kirk/Spock that started them all, and they're usually quite terrible, but it's obligatory, man. Your tv/film fandom sucks if there hasn't been one vidder out there to half-ass, or pull off, a Closer fanvid.
- Genderswaps. Especially genderswaps that leave the characters looking their age (fem!RDJ!Iron Man comes to mind as usually looking way too young). Except, I kind of still eat it all up.
- Suddenly ooc Bakery AU! Or omegaverse. Or highschool au. Or Hogwarts AU! HDM AUs! Or college AU and some of the character's are TAs, or professors, and students, and ♥ ♥♥♥♥ ♥&HEAR TS ;
- tumblr has gotten me into gifset AUs. Fake subtitles are AWESOME.
- haha I'm an awful person that loves when a canon love interest, who I probably don't ship with someone, ends up besties with that interest instead.
because I usually ship them with different people, but i still love the idea of them as the bestest supporting friendship ever.- slap slap kiss because i am allowed to be a boring mofo
- case fiiiic and metas where people detail how characters would solve crime, fight crime, deal with monsters, deal with specific kind of monsters, or whatever the hell they normally deal with depending on the source material.
I have more but I'm being yelled at to watch something on my computer. :(
I love you, fandom.

I also like (not in any order)
-Actor meets the character they play and other breaking-the-4th-wall fics
-Forced bonding/marriage
-kid!Avengers
-(pseudo-)science talk
I'm pretty easy to entertain.
