Welcome to the world of comic books. Where a not anorexic looking Batwoman was called "fat", and spines are broken to show that oh so impossible'oh so sexy' ass and boob pose.

Females in comics are really only there for men's fapfodder. They don't really care about their character or personality, or how not every female superhero would want to have a boob window, nine inch heals, and a battle thong.

Nice blanket statements, anon. Thanks for telling me some of my favorite superheroes are automatically just men's fapfodder when some dumb writers and artists draw and write them badly, because they have a vagina; while some of my other favorite superheroes are free to remain worthwhile characters even when drawn and written badly, because they have a penis. I appreciate the revelation.

I think ayrt was complaining about the sexism in comics, not being sexist themself. themselves? how do you pluralize that pronoun if it's used as a singular gender-neutral?

I believe that "themself" is acceptable when it is utilized as a single-person reflexive. Anyone who says otherwise is DUMB.

Alternately, I promote "thonself" because that is such a great word. I don't even think it's actually real, but we can CHANGE THE FUTURE WITH IT

Way to make a strawman argument from thin air, how cute of you. I never said anything like that, so project your fantasies more, I guess?

Most female superheroes costumes are nothing more than male fapfodder, and you can not deny this. Boob windows, thongs, fabric straps that cover almost nothing. When male superheroes pose on covers they're almost always fully clothed-posing with fists! Or kicks! But women? They're either on their knees with their backs arched, their breasts and ass in full view, or they're mangled into some floating pose where their spine is broken in different places so their ass and breasts can be seen together.

Want even more proof? Look at what they did to Amanda Waller. We can't have an chubby, slightly older strong female, nope! Make her twenty something, skinny as a stick, and smack a boobwindow on her. Ugh.

People called Batwoman fat? She's definitely not, she's very muscular. Do neckbeards realize that most muscular women aren't super skinny? She's fairly thin, anyways, though it would be cool to have a chubby superheroine!

Yeah go and read that, but realize it's ONE guy that doesn't even work for the bigger companies. Not Marvel Nor DC. Not any of the other ones you may or may not have heard of. Some sad guy working for a tiny company. She said so herself in a later statement. The damage is already done, of course.

It is not, as much as it was presented as such, a statement on all comics and it pisses me off that this person has gotten away with making the statement like it was. Vilifying an entire industry because of a statement made by one unimportant nobody isn't going to help. All you get are people hearing it second hand who suddenly hate something the otherwise didn't have an opinion of.

But you've go to admit the way that most female characters are drawn and female fans are treated by the comics industry at large, it isn't a huge leap to assume that this is a common opinion. I'm a female fan of comics, but I'm not going to pretend there isn't sexism in the industry.

It's not 'most female characters'. It's not even that big of a portion of them. It is a huge leap. It's the leap she knew everyone would make when she chose to present it as she did because tumblr is full of leaps and judgements and crazy ass conclusions.

I'm a female fan and and artist. I'm tired of people calling me a man or a self-hating woman because I draw things that maybe a guy faps to. I'm tired of the idea that anything drawn that men enjoy is bad. Also that everything that people consider bad is the only thing that exists. It's all anyone ever talks about. CatwomancatwomanStarfirebloobloobloo. There's hundreds of books a month and all people can do is complain about boobs in 2? People spent weeks shitting their pants over the Catwoman cover by March when we had several gorgeous covers of female fronted books that rarely got a mention.

It seems like people would rather be angry about the 'bad stuff' than support the 'good stuff.' And parrot any opinion they hear on the subject of Sexism. Supporting the good is just as important, if not more so, than crying about the bad.

Well, you're fully entitled to your opinion and I do think that having experience in a determined area is always helpful when you're trying to make a point, but it enrages me how dismissive you were of that person's opinion because, apparently, he's a "nobody."

The notion of someone being somehow irrelevant is quite relative. And, in this case, I suspect you spouted that because you disagree with that person? Very well:

I have absolutely NEVER heard of you, your work or know anything about you as a person, so does that entitle me to invalidate everything you typed up there, no matter how eloquently?

I understand what you're trying to say about supporting the "good stuff," but, honestly, if someone is rendered uncomfortable by the "bad stuff" you can't expect them to shut up and deal with it. People who denounce things they disagree with often end up more in evidence because properly disliking/disagreeing with something requires FAR more effort and incites MUCH more discussion than simply loving something.

There will always be uninformed people repeating criticism they've heard, but this should be NO MEANS invalidate the issue at hand. No opinion should be disregarded because it's been said a million times or because the person is not "relevant."

Woahwoah.. I think you read something I didn't write. I wasn't pulling rank. I'm a nobody. I'm speaking from the perspective of a female artist who wants to make comics. Just like the one that drew that Batgirl. Not a famous one. An artist that has been accused of not being a woman because I drew something that men might enjoy. Oops. Well I like drawing it as well.

I like the aesthetics of comic books. That's what it is. It's a style like manga has a style. Like Disney has a style. It's not realism. Even then for every Jim Lee you have a Humberto Ramos. For every Rocaforte there's a Scotty Young, Takeshi Miyazawa or Michael Ryan, Rafael Albuquerque.

I'm just fucking tired of this circle jerking mentality of people picking one thing they know will cause shit and making a post. People take their word for it, agreeing like they know what they are talking about, and they pat each other on the back for being against Sexism. All comics are obviously sexist because of a few examples is a bullshit lie to spread. It's just as hurtful as saying all feminists want to kill men because some do or all Muslims are terrorists because some have done bad things.

If sexy women is an issue, it exists. It's not as big as people make it out to be. There are far more books with fully dressed fully realized women kicking ass they there are blatantly sexy ones. My personal solution would be more sexy men (Although to me comics are pretty hot already, but I know not everyone likes buff as much as I do.) Sexuality isn't bad. If I want hot men to look at guys can have their hot ladies(or whatever tickles their fancy.)

Well, yes I went and read it. She says, quite clearly, that she got more or less the same kind of comments from all the companies. This one guy just happened to go into more detail and that's why she posted it.

She isn't vilifying anything,just exposing a problem that any comic fan with two eyes and a couple brain cells to rub together can see is actually there.

A few golden exceptions in a sea of shit don't turn it into a sea of gold.
