Do you get paid enough for the shit that you do?

I barely do anything, so...hell yes.

Re: People with jobs

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I get paid $10.25 an hour (minimum wage in Canada) to call people to do surveys so idk. Sometimes it feels like it's worth it and others, not so much. It all depends on the survey I'm doing I guess

No. I get paid minimum wage. Not enough to live on and not enough to put up with the shit I deal with every day. But what're you gonna do? I'm not really qualified for anything else.

Re: People with jobs

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I work for a huge company and everyone tends to bitch about how much work we do yet we get shitty raises and hardly get paid well enough to pay our bills (I don't make enough to move out on my own and that depresses me because I work full time). It's so frustrating to sit at quarterly meetings where my bosses brag about how much money we've made and how much money we've saved yet I can't even get a decent raise.

But at least on the plus side, we have really good health insurance coverage and we get yearly bonuses, but the bonuses can vary from pretty decent to just OK.

I'm quite happy with my salary. Especially since I'm still a student and I'm getting experience in my field at the same time.

..No. I have over 100,000 in student loans and getting paid 40k a year with 8 years of schooling. Definitely not cutting it. Sometimes I wanna quit.

I get paid enough, I guess. I just wish people weren't such assholes to those of us in the service industry/retail.

Yeah. I get great benefits, and I'm comfortable. I'll never be rich on this salary, but I go to the grocery store and buy whatever I want. ;)

Re: People with jobs

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck no. I'm the only one that ever does any work around there, and the only one with any useful skills whatsoever. So now I have like six jobs, including being the entire IT department, and I still make $7.75 an hour. >:(

I get Missouri minimum wage but I love my job and there's a ton of down time for me to do homework and other stuff (plus my boss is adorkably awesome oh ho ho) so yes. Even if some people I have to do stuff for can be quite insufferable at times.

That's hard for me to answer. Do I get paid decently? Hell yes. Do I get paid enough for the shit I do? Hell no.

The unfortunate downside to having a work ethic (and the inability to say no when your boss asks you to do something) is that they just keep giving you more things to do!

It goes against my internal workings to do a piss poor job so that she doesn't ask me to do anymore side projects (on top of the regular work that everyone else and myself does), so of course I do a good job, which just lands me more 'projects'. ¬.¬;;

I guess so. I don't get paid a great lot, but the job is so slack that I spend a lot of time sitting around reading or surfing the net because nothing is happening so it balances out. Wish I got more hours, though.

Yes. I'm in my early twenties without kids, don't have expensive hobbies, and am on a pretty good salary. I've even started to save for graduate school! :D

I wish I had benefits at my job, but I feel like I get paid a fair wage for what I do. If I didn't love my job as much as I do I probably wouldn't feel that way though.

I'm not paid, at least not for the foreseeable future. My job is basically a glorified internship. And since the company is a startup, NOBODY in the administration team is paid, not even the artistic director. But at least I'll have something to put on resumes, and some practical experience in my field for when I eventually go to grad school.

Nah. I work like 10-15hrs a day doing hard manual labor for no pay, and only one person thanks me for what I do.

But hey I got a $100 futon out of the deal, and a car ride to grad school with my shit.

Seriously, if this were anything other than farming, I would be compensated up the ass. I don't enjoy getting the shit kicked out of me by animals that weigh as much as a car, that are also taller than me. :(

Re: People with jobs

I'm not sure, and that's part of the problem. Job postings rarely seem to list what they're willing to offer for salary, and searching online gives such varied results that I have no idea how to figure out what's legit and what's bullshit. So I'm not sure, when I'm job hunting, what I ought to be listing my requirements at. I usually just go with "what I'm making now or better." I'm fairly certain that, because I'm a temp, I am making less than I would be if I was a permanent hire. I also know that if I was a permanent hire, I wouldn't have to pay for my own health insurance, and I'd have dental coverage again, so it would probably make my budget stretch significantly better. I know that there is a $4.00 discrepancy between what I get paid and what the temp agency is charging the company I currently work at.

I love my current job. Unfortunately it's only seasonal. I work in the office at a rafting company. It's such a laid back, hippie atmosphere and my boss is one of the coolest women I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. The owners are pretty cool (albeit lazy, except one of them who is the nicest guy ever and works his ass off without hardly ever getting upset despite all the stress he has to deal with), all the office girls I work with are great, and the guides are wonderful. The job is not bad, though it can be stressful at times dealing with the public, but overall it is not hard and mostly just consists of answering phones, making reservations, dealing with payments, retail, e-mails, and other various odd jobs. If it were year around I would never look further but unfortunately it's only 5 months out of the year.

I also make $9 a hour which is enough for me to pay all my bills as well as some for the side. The rest of the year though I'm stuck on my state's minimum wage of 7.64, which is not nearly enough to live comfortably off of.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-23 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

I work inbound call centre for various emergency services such as plumbing and the like.

Sometimes I get huge dickheads who yell at me or abuse me because they got me at 2am and not the actual company, but I let it roll off my back. I'm getting paid to answer the phone, they're losing money for ringing me. I figure I win there. I've only had my feelings hurt twice, but I try to ignore that.

If you're curious I'm $18 hour, which is just above minimum wage. This is good for just supporting me, my pets and my friend who needs it.

The vet and dental calls are the worst.

I make about 40% less then the average salary in my industry/role.

So part of me thinks 'fuck no', but on the other-hand - it's more they're overpaid then I'm under.

Definitely going to jump ship if an opportunity opens up with my companies chief competitor though.
